Mild turbo upgrade for OM603.971 with Bosch 7mm elements - 4x4Cal - 07-02-2014 Hi all, I have been lurking on this forum for the past year. Currently driving a mint condition OM603.971 94 S350 with about 10K on a new MB crate engine cylinder block. I like how the vehicle drives as-is and always looking for improvements. Recently the injection pump caught my attentions because it has developed diesel leaks surroundings. I think I need a rebuild soon from the workshop advised. I saw an opportunity besides rebuilding with the same parts on the 5.5mm plungers I can possibly upgrade to the BOSCH 7mm elements. However, I think from reading previous posts the original TB03 turbocharger may not be able to provide enough air to handle such upgrade with the 7mm elements. The TB03 turbo CHRA was updated with a new unit not long ago. Could you please advise any off the shelf Garrett turbocharger good to work with my planning 7mm elements upgrade? I would rather not to alter or fabricate oil lines. Thank you. RE: Mild turbo upgrade for OM603.971 with Bosch 7mm elements - awsrock - 07-10-2014 You are probably right...I know one guy has 6mm with the same turbo as you and said it was just about at the limit for that turbo (due to EGTs), but he did not have an intercooler. You MIGHT be able to get away with the stock turbo if you intercooled, but you would probably still be losing power at higher rpm due to the turbine size. Do you know how many CCs of fuel you are flowing? RE: Mild turbo upgrade for OM603.971 with Bosch 7mm elements - 4x4Cal - 07-11-2014 I do not have any CCs flow figures on the 7mm elements I planned to install. Is there a way to calculate the CCs flow to determine which boost level or air flow the turbo should make? Thanks, RE: Mild turbo upgrade for OM603.971 with Bosch 7mm elements - awsrock - 07-22-2014 I'm not sure if there is a way to do it on your own, it might be a test bench thing. RE: Mild turbo upgrade for OM603.971 with Bosch 7mm elements - MFSuper90 - 07-22-2014 I don't know if you can buy a garrett off the shelf that will directly bolt up without having to modify anything RE: Mild turbo upgrade for OM603.971 with Bosch 7mm elements - barrote - 07-26-2014 (07-11-2014, 11:19 AM)4x4Cal I do not have any CCs flow figures on the 7mm elements I planned to install. Is there a way to calculate the CCs flow to determine which boost level or air flow the turbo should make?Hy there, Those 7mm bosch element is built for 60x engine fueling needs or is just a bosch 7mm? Once u have them installed the shop should give u figures for injection max fuel delivery , under boost and no boost. usually a pump for a 603 is to be 35 cc no boost , boost max 42/45 cc , measure at 100 or 1000 strokes. this numbers is for stock engine. what is importnt to know is rack position as well. assuming like me we are after at least 100cc max fuel, is a way far from that. regards. Just a thought, if i lay my hands on a 606, what i will do is a pair of gt20´s, the stock ones. RE: Mild turbo upgrade for OM603.971 with Bosch 7mm elements - 4x4Cal - 07-26-2014 Hi barrote, I am planning to buy the 7mm elements offered from dieselkontor.de because they are the only vendor replied to my email inquiries. The other vendor who was active here didn’t reply me at all. My custom turbo is on the way. Thank you. RE: Mild turbo upgrade for OM603.971 with Bosch 7mm elements - Petar - 07-26-2014 Where does the fuel leak from ? Delivery valves ? If so you might only need to change the delivery valve seals. But there is no fun without bigger pump elements https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SW1dRGpHPU RE: Mild turbo upgrade for OM603.971 with Bosch 7mm elements - 4x4Cal - 07-28-2014 Hi, The leaks are from everywhere including the top delivery valves. I have repeated the process of cleaning up then drive the car a while and diesel fuel slowly fills the cracks around the IP body. Thanks for the vid! RE: Mild turbo upgrade for OM603.971 with Bosch 7mm elements - barrote - 07-28-2014 (07-26-2014, 04:47 PM)4x4Cal Hi barrote, There is a fellow here called dieselmeken, i belive he has 7,5 mm for sale. this fellow product should be far better than those u mention. u can check it under sales here in the fórum. i intend to buy from him , when the time comes Maybe u should fix the pump before spending Money in fancy turbos RE: Mild turbo upgrade for OM603.971 with Bosch 7mm elements - 4x4Cal - 07-28-2014 Hi barrote, I have tried multiple times to contact the vendor you mentioned.
