W123 rad options to hide/replace overflow bottle - bricktron - 08-07-2014 want to stop seeing the overflow bottle. along with staying in cool climates, i am looking into a rad swap, plus either a siphon recovery bottle or that fancy non-expansive coolant they now have. i have a turbo 300D setup right now. tried to put in a 240D radiator and nonpressurized overflow bottle, but didn't realize the oil coolers were different too, so i had to stop until i get a 240D cooler. do all the rads have the extra lower section for (i think) auto trans? has anyone come up with another use for it? are NA 300D rads/coolers different from the 240D ones? any other candidates to consider? RE: W123 rad options to hide/replace overflow bottle - Simpler=Better - 08-07-2014 I always cap the transmission cooler holes to keep junk out. Some offroad guys use them to heat water on the campsite for bathing ![]() You can get a radiator cap that splices into the large radiator hose, allowing you to use a regular hidden non-pressurized coolant bottle. With an electric fan, people have said that it rarely kicks on-so the assumption is the standard radiator is properly sized. RE: W123 rad options to hide/replace overflow bottle - bricktron - 08-08-2014 right on. that rad cap is just what i need. i looked for such a part before without success and i guess i will look again as it's so much simpler {tm}. i am guessing the hose splice thing provides a fill stem as well as a pressure valve - never sure how i could fill this radiator without the pressure bottle. RE: W123 rad options to hide/replace overflow bottle - Simpler=Better - 08-08-2014 There are multiple options and retailers, here's jegs cap: http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS-Performance-Products/555/53098/10002/-1 ![]() RE: W123 rad options to hide/replace overflow bottle - bricktron - 08-08-2014 ordering. thanks S=B. RE: W123 rad options to hide/replace overflow bottle - bricktron - 08-13-2014 i found a filler from a dodge which i think will work. already have one of these: http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS+Performance+Products/555/511000/10002/-1 ![]() can anyone tell me how the intake and outlet are supposed to be plumbed up to the hose filler barb? i thought there was going to be just one hose for both directions of coolant flow (i.e. either overflowing or being sucked back to the rad, depending on temperature). RE: W123 rad options to hide/replace overflow bottle - Simpler=Better - 08-13-2014 Plumb the bottom one to your overflow port, and the top one somewhere it can vent. RE: W123 rad options to hide/replace overflow bottle - bricktron - 08-13-2014 so complicated!! thanks again. |
