OM606 into w124 wagon - llopness - 09-05-2014 I bought an '87 300te last year hoping I could convince my brother's GF she should have a Mercedes and not a Honda. Unfortunately, it had a history of being given too light an oil. She drove it alright for a couple months and then I borrowed it and threw a rod in 8 minutes. I highly recommend the experience. THROWN ROD W124 BODY ENGINE BAY I have a very smashed '98 E300 purchased from copart to be a parts car for my '98 e300. which was very useful when my DD lost a front spring and I needed a new spring perch to weld in. I've removed the engine and transmission. the fan, water pump, alternator, serpentine belt tensioner and oil filter housing are all smashed. the timing chain cover is cracked. OM606 CRACKED TIMING CHAIN COVER I have a 5 speed from a 190e 2.3-16 also borrowing the clutch assembly and shifter whatever I need. should the clutch pedal just drop in? haven't looked yet. shifter bolted in just fine. GETRAG Not sure if I want to go with a GTP38 out of a early '99 ford 7.3(have the rest of the truck to pull pipes off) Or HE351VE would have to be all custom and I already cut up the CAN board to dismount the BLDC servo. 7.3 TURBO I'm currently sourcing most of my broken engine pieces off an OM602 NA. Waiting for the mechanical pump. though if I do a controller for the turbo I might be able to integrate it with controlling the 606 pump. just about to machine up some spacers for the M103 motor mounts. I'm assuming the OM602 mounts from a 190D would be unsatisfactory. RE: OM606 into w124 wagon - DanielK - 09-06-2014 W124 and W201 share many many parts. As far as I know, the pedal assembly bolts right in. I'm excited to see this build because I love the W124 body style, especially in wagon form. RE: OM606 into w124 wagon - llopness - 09-06-2014 The engine fits. I just did a straight swap of the M103 mounts to the OM606. I had read about making 10mm shims but when I looked at the mounts they had 603 part numbers and I figured the 603 had the same block as the 606, so I decided to try without shims. anyways fits perfect. OM606 in w124 leaning towards holset. current plan is to get it running with stock 603 pump and holset just turned out all the way for minimum boost. then after it's shown to function at all. will get the pump done, turbo controlled and a taller rear end, thinking a 2.24 from a 400e but something with LSD would be nice. RE: OM606 into w124 wagon - raysorenson - 09-06-2014 The 717.404 1st gear won't work well with a rear gear taller than 2.65, especially with a turbo as big as the he351ve and the aggressive clutch material necessary to make a 9 inch clutch hold that kind of power. I recommend backing off of the turbo size if this is going to be a driver. Other than that, good luck. Sounds like an interesting build! RE: OM606 into w124 wagon - llopness - 09-07-2014 I've got a 92 300e 4matic for parts. I gather that'd a 2.87 with ASD. perhaps I'll try it.
