A OM605 for track days / rallying - Whizbang - 10-17-2014 So the question is then, how do i manage EGTs? I see many warnings of "10 - 20 seconds of WOT" causing damage. That obviously wont work for motorsports. What are the ways of mediating this? RE: A OM605 for track days / rallying - barrote - 10-17-2014 lol , i have same question since i have mine 605 driving on the 600Cº normal highway, i had 850ºC, but it was to teach some manners to a 330D driver. engine survived!!! well i would like to hear the expecialists on that matter. good question that one, regards RE: A OM605 for track days / rallying - raysorenson - 10-17-2014 Start with sensible hardware. A pump with bigger elements and one of Dieselmeken's fancy ALDA's is a good start. A good sized turbo and adequate intercooling are also on the list. Once the car is built, identify any weak points through data collection. Weak points could include inadequate intercooling, restrictive intake path, restrictive exhaust manifold or exhaust, hot side too small, etc... I'll be installing a 14point7 Idash to log wideband O2, 6 egt's, exhaust manifold pressure, intake manifold pressure, oil temp, IAT. That should tell me what I need to know. RE: A OM605 for track days / rallying - Ekstra - 10-17-2014 What kind of intercooling hardware are you set up with? RE: A OM605 for track days / rallying - pmj4147 - 10-19-2014 i'm running OM662(602) with 7.5mm, 25G turbo hitting 1200 degree C Everyday!!! Cylinder head still going well. RE: A OM605 for track days / rallying - Turbo - 10-19-2014 I see some melted turbine on a diesel, if it really 1200 degree Celsius I guess we will have another one soon if not all-ready. Modern turbos is to withstand 1050 degress, yet another 150 degrees is much. It is a matter of secunds before something melt. what kind of gauge do you use to measuring 1200 degrees? I'm using 'defi', 'Greddy' meter to moniter engine condition.. pretty accurate guages. And i never melted anything but journal bearings |
