W201 OM605 gearbox questions - Fatman - 10-25-2014 Hi Guys… I'm looking to do an OM605 conversion into my w201 and have been look at gearbox and drivetrain issues that I think I may encounter along the way. I plan to run the car at stock power for a while and start to upgrade things along the way. 1. Gearbox- Would the standard OM602 N/A Gearbox that is in the car be able to take the extra power from the OM605? 2. Clutch and flywheel- I have read a bit about this. From what I have read, the OM602 clutch will melt even with standard power from the OM605. Is it possible for the OM602 flywheel and get an uprated clutch? Or is there a standard alternative that would be up to job? I have also heard that a sprinter single mass flywheel and clutch could be fitted? 3. Flex discs - Would standard replacements be OK? Or would I need some uprated ones? Any and all advice is greatly appreciated guys Thanks Stefan RE: W201 OM605 gearbox questions - F.R.A.S - 10-27-2014 Easiest is to take gearbox and clutch, flywheel from the 605. Or you an take it from the 603 or an m103. Most inline stuff fits across! 230k is the toughest stock stuff!!! RE: W201 OM605 gearbox questions - Fatman - 10-27-2014 Will there be much modification to the propshaft and gear linkages? Was looking to get the 605 in and driving and start upgrading as I go along... Depends what will work out cheaper in the long run. RE: W201 OM605 gearbox questions - F.R.A.S - 10-28-2014 In the long run it's always cheaper to do it right from the beginning Same type of linkage on the car as on the 605 gearbox. Prop I don't know, but can't be that hard to sort. |
