om604 2-liter STD - F.R.A.S - 01-03-2015 How to build a solid 4cyl diesel? Take one awesome om604 engine. Put stronger rods and pistons in it, straighten and balance the crank, weigh all rods and pistons, get crazy camshafts to it and machine the pistons for clearance then send the pistons of for coating. Modify a BMW flywheel to fit the Mercedes crank and tadaaa you have a solid 4cyl 16v diesel. Dieselmeken will build the IP. RE: om604 2-liter STD - barrote - 01-03-2015 yep, seems easy , just a simple question, what will be the displacement? RE: om604 2-liter STD - F.R.A.S - 01-03-2015 Look at the subject 2-liter... RE: om604 2-liter STD - barrote - 01-03-2015 , like many things in the world , the hell is in the details..... RE: om604 2-liter STD - raysorenson - 01-04-2015 Would you mind sharing the cam specs? RE: om604 2-liter STD - Petar - 01-04-2015 What bore and stroke ? My guess is OM601 84mm stroke crank and 87mm 606 turbo pistons.Did you resleeve the engine for the smaller bore ? RE: om604 2-liter STD - F.R.A.S - 01-04-2015 Not at all. Intake: Centerline 112-degrees Duration 280-degrees Lift 10,6mm TDC lift 1,7mm Exhaust: Centerline 112-degrees Duration 280-degrees Lift 10,6mm TDC lift 1,6mm This is what we call Stg2 cams. So nothing special at all. (01-04-2015, 10:32 AM)raysorenson Would you mind sharing the cam specs? Yes normal turbo engine bore and stroke Yep new sleeves in the cylinders to achieve the smaller bore. (01-04-2015, 11:00 AM)Petar What bore and stroke ? My guess is OM601 84mm stroke crank and 87mm 606 turbo pistons.Did you resleeve the engine for the smaller bore ? RE: om604 2-liter STD - raysorenson - 01-07-2015 Thanks for the info. Doing research for a 603 cam. Is that duration @1.0mm lift? RE: om604 2-liter STD - F.R.A.S - 01-07-2015 You never learn enough I have no clue actually and that is a valid question. I'm NOT the camshaft guy really. I don't know anything of how that piece works. I just know from being in the flow bench that you need a little bit of lift to get good numbers. The cam-guy we use calculate on stuff like this. Maybe it's time to learn (01-07-2015, 10:59 AM)raysorenson Thanks for the info. Doing research for a 603 cam. RE: om604 2-liter STD - erling66 - 01-08-2015 Why do you want to reduce bore and stroke? Bore, I guess is because you want to use 605/6 turbo pistons. But stroke??? Normally more ccm means more hp. RE: om604 2-liter STD - Jetmugg - 01-08-2015 This looks like a very interesting project. I can't wait to hear/see how well it runs. Will you be using aftermarket connecting rods? I certainly hope so - with the fueling potential of the Dieselmeken pump and what I suppose may be 2.5 bar of boost or so, the upgraded rods would be a nice insurance policy. Steve. RE: om604 2-liter STD - F.R.A.S - 01-08-2015 The engine will race in a 2-liter class AND it's pretty hard to find a tougher rod the same length as a 2.2-liter rod. Normally more ccm means more hp. 2.5bar will not do it quite frankly, 3-3,2bar maybe. And yea it's a cool project. Just have to make sure the guy with the wallet decides for some forged rods (01-08-2015, 02:13 PM)Jetmugg This looks like a very interesting project. I can't wait to hear/see how well it runs. RE: om604 2-liter STD - Hario' - 01-09-2015 I would suggest you'll need around 4 or 5 turbos to achieve your power goals. RE: om604 2-liter STD - F.R.A.S - 01-09-2015 Ohhh no we're not aiming for 1550whp so we'll manage with one for now and two later on... (01-09-2015, 06:24 AM)Hario I would suggest you'll need around 4 or 5 turbos to achieve your power goals. RE: om604 2-liter STD - Hario' - 01-09-2015 lol... I will be following this build, I love small #'s with big #'s RE: om604 2-liter STD - erling66 - 01-09-2015 (01-08-2015, 03:29 PM)F.R.A.S The engine will race in a 2-liter class AND it's pretty hard to find a tougher rod the same length as a 2.2-liter rod.Now I see why you want 2L but I am quite sure the 2.2L use the same rod length as the OM601 and the rare OM604 2L. Do you have a plan for when this engine should be running? RE: om604 2-liter STD - F.R.A.S - 01-09-2015 Maybe you are correct regarding the rod length but still only a 26mm wrist pin We use the 606dt rods in this application (for now). I have a set off each rods in the shop so will actually measure them I hope we can have this beauty up and running in the middle of february. Will break it in gently @ 6000rpm in the engine dyno hahahha... RE: om604 2-liter STD - Jetmugg - 01-10-2015 After the engine is properly broken in, I suggest that we install it in something like this.... , remove the bicycle and tow bar, and then go chase a Land Speed Record. Steve. RE: om604 2-liter STD - F.R.A.S - 01-10-2015 I just love that picture!!! There will be NO competition on that bed off salt when Team Green Frog arrives. RE: om604 2-liter STD - Riverstick - 02-04-2015 Brilliant thread F.R.A.S, What coating are you putting on the pistons...ceramic on top and Teflon on the sides? Are you doing any modification to the pre chambers? RE: om604 2-liter STD - F.R.A.S - 02-05-2015 Thanks mate. Yes you are correct (02-04-2015, 11:12 PM)Riverstick Brilliant thread F.R.A.S, Pistons. Block sleeved and bored, waiting for honing and top decking. Flywheel done and Sachs 618 PP with Sachs 4-point sinter clutch. RE: om604 2-liter STD - Riverstick - 02-07-2015 The coating looks good....I presume they were done in Sweden? How much per piston? RE: om604 2-liter STD - F.R.A.S - 02-07-2015 Thanks, the old om606.962 pistons looks like new Full coating (skirt and top) is 1000sek/piston. And yea, made in Sweden The pistons are also machined for more valve clearance before coating. (02-07-2015, 12:44 PM)Riverstick The coating looks good....I presume they were done in Sweden? RE: om604 2-liter STD - Turbo - 02-07-2015 Did you put in bigger vale or just want lower compression ratio?
