Vacuum shut off in non-MB car - simonm16p6 - 01-08-2015 I've made a bit more progress on the OM605 conversion into my Rover P6, clutch is working, and the starter and glowplugs are wired into the cars ignition system and work fine The problem I have is turning it off, I've fitted a normally open vacuum solenoid that allows the engine to start, turn off, but holds vacuum so it won't restart. My Land Rover has the same setup except the brake servo/booster is fitted which seems to bleed the vacuum off allowing it to be restarted almost immediately after switching off. Does anyone have any ideas of how to make it work? I've thought about putting a small hole somewhere in the vacuum line to bleed out the vacuum, or fitting a hidden button to dump the vacuum from inside the car as a basic security device? RE: Vacuum shut off in non-MB car - Petar - 01-08-2015 Get a two way vacuum solenoid, wire it to receive power with ignition on and plumb it like this: one vacuum inlet goes to the vacuum pump and the other is open to the atmosphere. Vacuum outlet goes to the shutoff actuator on the pump. When the valve is unpowered the vacuum inlet is connected to the outlet and the atmosphere connection is closed. When powered the atmosphere vent is connected to the outlet allowing the vacuum to bleed off from the shutoff actuator. The vacuum inlet meanwhile is closed. RE: Vacuum shut off in non-MB car - MrHope - 01-08-2015 you can find the right vaccum solenoid in a w124 or you can do it the easy way! put at vacum hose between vaccum and stop, then cut it and put a T there and put a hose that 3rd place, just put your thumb on it and it shuts off! have had it on many cars =) RE: Vacuum shut off in non-MB car - swampmonkey - 01-08-2015 get on of these out of a w124, w123, w126 or w202 gasser, (or diesel EGR stuff) http://en.bildelsbasen.se/global/images/image.php?src=/mnt/newftp/48/bil/lgnr/511164_1.jpg&width=370&height= 3. hose-connections.. i dont know if you can see the numbers on the image, but the one with the wierd filter is number 1 i think, the other ones 2 and 3... you will figure it out with trial and error. 2. connects to 3 when no power, and is closed when power is on.. this one you connect to the vacuum pump... 3. connects to 2 when no power, and connects to 1 when power is on. this one to your dieselpump. 3. leave open. when you run the engine, 1. is closed, and will allow the vacuumpump to biuld vacuum, when you switch of the power, the engine will shut of. when you put the ignition on again, 2 will open to 3, air will go in, pump will return to GO, and you can start engine RE: Vacuum shut off in non-MB car - DiseaselWeasel - 01-09-2015 Or just go ghetto all the way RE: Vacuum shut off in non-MB car - simonm16p6 - 01-09-2015 Thanks for the suggestions, I'd rather have it fully functioning off the ignition switch, if I can find a 3 way vacuum solenoid or the original Mercedes solenoid I'd try that |
