Racing oil in tuned OM606 - TurboAlex - 01-17-2015 Hello, i have just build a 500-650hp OM606 With Dieselmeken 230cc/8mm pump and stiffer valve spring but rest is original (internally). I have problems With what oil to choose. I only drive spring/summer/fall in Norway (5-35*c temp) Engine has 240 000kms before the tune up, and about 500km after tune With some 5w30 castrol stuff First the viscosety, shoud it be 5w/30-35-40? Second, does MB/OM606 engines like thicker oil and would a tuned engine like any different oil than standard MB spec oil? I work in a car part store and have Access to most oil brands. Many of the guys in the shop ONLY use Motul 300v oil With excellent success. I would like to know if i could use this too :-) Will post a build thread soon, but a tranny change is first on the list (gs6 53dz) RE: Racing oil in tuned OM606 - F.R.A.S - 01-17-2015 Hi. We use a Mobil-1 racing mineral oil, can't remember the viscosity though. RE: Racing oil in tuned OM606 - Stamsaas - 01-17-2015 I use Agip/Eni 10w60 racing oil RE: Racing oil in tuned OM606 - TurboAlex - 01-18-2015 10w60? I would assume that it would be too thick. But do any of you know the tollerances in the om606 engines? If it likes thicker og thinner oil? I guess it woukd be better to use 40 oil, than 30. And the only downside is higher oil pressure, and less flow? RE: Racing oil in tuned OM606 - EvoPeter - 01-20-2015 I used Gulf Competition 10w-60 in my om602 but now i have Gulf Racing 10w-60 in my om605. RE: Racing oil in tuned OM606 - w123love - 01-20-2015 This is an option Joe Gibbs Racing Oil RE: Racing oil in tuned OM606 - MFSuper90 - 01-20-2015 I don't have a om606, but I have seen test results of schaeffers oil against other oils, and more horsepower was made when compared to other top brand racing oils. I am not a dealer, and the test was done by an individual, not the company. I've just seen nothing but good things from schaeffers RE: Racing oil in tuned OM606 - barrote - 01-20-2015 use mobil 1, 15w40 change 5k or w30 mineral change every 3K. people with Money change oil every race or weekend. normal people change when they have Money lasts the same. RE: Racing oil in tuned OM606 - HughF_UK - 01-21-2015 5w30, because i buy it in bulk for my 2x transits RE: Racing oil in tuned OM606 - TurboAlex - 01-21-2015 Thanks for all the replies. Funny to see all the different awnsers I got some Comma 5w50 oil here at work. I see that it meets the MB229.1 spec, but some Finns at the "mersuforum" said it was too thin? That must be wrong. Unless 5w50 is the wrong viscosity for daily driving With occational mad man driving, i think i will try this. After 3-4000km i will drain the oil and inspect it + filter. But if i hear ratteling sounds, or wierd oil temps i'll change to the super expensive Motul 300v oil, and give it a try. (Difficult to obtain Mobil 1 oil where i live) BTW: What oil temps do you guys get? Min-Max 1) Average driving? 2) Aggressive driving? RE: Racing oil in tuned OM606 - baldur - 01-21-2015 If you want to know if your oil is providing adequate protection the only way is to take a used oil sample and get it analysed. Blackstone Labs does it for 25 bucks. http://www.blackstone-labs.com/ There's also a whole web site and forum dedicated to oil matters at http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/ RE: Racing oil in tuned OM606 - TurboAlex - 01-22-2015 (01-21-2015, 12:22 PM)baldur If you want to know if your oil is providing adequate protection the only way is to take a used oil sample and get it analysed.
