More camber and more swaybar w116 - buzzboy - 02-20-2015

Racing a boat like the 300sd is just that, racing a boat. The front tires roll over under cornering and it has a good bit of body roll. All we've done for better handling is cutting the springs for a 2"/2" drop. I'm wondering if there's any way to get more camber on the front than stock allows for. I'd also like to either get a beefier sway bar or add a second sway bar for more roll resistance.

I race a W126 in Lemons and completely understand what you are talking about.  We actually got lucky and won our class at T-hil in 2013.  A simple thing you can do is dial in a ton of caster.  This will add camber when the wheels turn.  We "stumbled" onto extra camber when we replaced the lower control arm bushings with some cheap replacements.  After a couple of races the bushing were shot and we had all the camber we needed.  Tongue

We've been fans of you guys since you began racing. We've actually managed a C win in this car at Sebring this year so we're trying to go faster and be competitive in B, which is really hard. We need to cut ~10 seconds off our average speed to do that.

Are you allowed to change the lower control arm bushings? There should be gains from using a very hard cast poly bushing or turn some nylon stock to size. You can even turn poly rod in a lathe, but I hear it's best to keep it cold. A spherical bearing would be best but I'm keeping a budget in mind here.

Not sure I would use delrin because the LCA on that chassis doesn't perfectly move in one axis. This might be too much flex for delrin to deal with.

Heh...  class B is a totally different race.
Stiffening the suspension will also reduce roll.  We were able to reduce roll/improve cornering speeds doing that.  Nothing can beat us in the corners now, it's on the straights that we get killed.
Not sure what springs/shock options are available for your chassis but you might find some gains there.
I've attached a picture from a couple of years ago showing the crazy amount of roll we had.  And check out the punishment that front tire is taking.

I'm not sure about the W116, but on the W123, there are holes further out to mount the lower control arms. It's probably REALLY drastic, but hey, racecar. I agree with Torkey on the increase in caster resulting in an increase in camber. Adjust the caster, then the camber, then the toe, in that order.

Does anyone happen to know the Syndicate Racing guys who have that R107 SLC? I can't find any way to contact them. I have an R107 to give them.

Sounds like you need off-set LCA bushes... I've seen rear dampers with helper-springs just two days ago on a W123... Maybe this is something to explore if it's within the rules.

The K-Mac bushings might give you some more camber too.
