What's the best engine to drop into my 1972 220D? - Signalius - 08-25-2009 Howdy- I bought a 1972 220D with what looks like a 1975 240d engine in it but it's old and tired and it would be cheaper to put a different engine in than to rebuild this one because of a host of other problems. What's the best engine to drop in? Can I get away with a 300TD? Is that insane? Thanks! RE: What's the best engine to drop into my 1972 220D? - ForcedInduction - 08-25-2009 An OM617 will fit well if you relocate the oil filter housing, cut the driveshaft to length and make an exhaust system. If you want insane, fit on OM603 or 606 in there. RE: What's the best engine to drop into my 1972 220D? - 2.5-10 - 08-25-2009 M117 V8 most powerful 'drop in' def. a OM617 turbo RE: What's the best engine to drop into my 1972 220D? - larryratcliff - 09-12-2009 I have a similar question to this. However, I was wanting to know how much trouble it would be to make the 99 320 D engine or the later 2004 CDI engine work. However, I was wanting to know how much trouble it would be to make the 99 320 D engine or the later 2004 CDI engine work. Difficult and expensive since its completely computer controlled using a CAN bus. Its difficult to know how each unit will act alone or with other units missing. RE: What's the best engine to drop into my 1972 220D? - willbhere4u - 09-12-2009 any 240d engine should bolt right up! A 617 turbo will use the stock trans and motor mounts but will need the trans moved back and the shifter linkage and drive shaft shortened! like 4in? |
