power steering pump w210 Om606 - ho55 - 03-14-2015

Hi
I am trying to work out how to plumb the power steering pump to my vehicle. I'm using an OM606.962 from and E300 W210 in my 4x4.
My pump looks like this:

But why 3 ports?
The top must be the input from the reservoir. I'm guessing the front one is the output? So what is the rear one?

I belive this pump is from S210 estate with self levelling rear suspension. You need another pump if you have power steering only.

RE: power steering pump w210 Om606 - AlanMcR - 03-15-2015

Of course, if you also want to run a hydraulic winch ...

RE: power steering pump w210 Om606 - ho55 - 03-15-2015

In fact i do have a hydraulic lifing cab, so it would be of use. But that says to me that the output can be shut off, so could just be block.
But please, which output is which?

As you said, top one is input, front one is output and rear one without red plug is for suspension hydraulics.

i just ran a banjo bolt into the side on mine and got a custom hose made to go to the new steering rack. Return line is simple just plumbs into the lipped pipe on the power steering pump, It was a standard metric fitting aswell

ho55 was blocking that port successful???

I need to do it also if it works.. Cheers.

Why not just go with the E300 pump? The pressure is slightly higher, but not a big deal in the long run, and you could always adjust the pressure valve.

I bet if you block the pump you'll probably seize it. Where's the pressure suppose to go?

RE: power steering pump w210 Om606 - ho55 - 10-19-2015

I didnt try to block the rear por yet, other priorities.
Certainly if you block the main output it doesnt like it, was getting hot in the short test i did.
But if the rear port runs the suspension, which isnt active all of the time, it may have a relief valve inside?

RE: power steering pump w210 Om606 - Tito - 10-19-2015

I think the oil pressure is diverted back from the SLS to the tank. There are 2 lines for the SLS running to the rear. The SLS valve closes so the pressure can build up. Thats how it works I think. I'm almost certain there's no pressure relieve valve in it by just looking at it.

You can open the rear of the pump and remove the pump shaft from the secondary pump, then you can safely block off the output for the suspension.

When removing the SLS from the wagon variant (such as the car I have) you can just loop the lines - you might be able to install this pump and loop the lines that would usually run to the SLS pump in the rear.

Awesome!  That is my project for this weekend then. (new new IM doesn't clear the PAS reservoir due to being build with too many beers).

RE: power steering pump w210 Om606 - Tito - 10-22-2015

I did this an hour ago. It's a very easy job. There's a little shaft about half an inch in there which you can just pull out and screw the pump back together. A 2 min job when the pump is off.

All credits go to Baldur. Big Grin

Yep, done with beers. I bet it will weep from the O-ring now though..

SLS banjo will be removed and replaced with a stack of copper washers to make doubly sure it leaks..

RE: power steering pump w210 Om606 - m1tch - 10-28-2015

Could this mod be used to eliminate the SLS from my car? Eg changing the rear shocks and springs to standard ones, remove the SLS pump and then the lines by blocking off the pump?

RE: power steering pump w210 Om606 - Hario' - 10-28-2015

Swapping to a non SLS pump would be the proper way to do it. In fact!! You can have my non-SLS pump in exchange for your SLS remote pump reservoir??

Reason is im converting to SLS pump with remote reservoir because my new inlet manifold doesn't clear the pump-mounted res.. PM me if you're interested.
