606 Turbo- Non Turbo front cover - zeeman - 04-21-2015

Anyone know if a Om 606 front cover is the same between a 95-96 engine and a 98-99 turbo engine. They look the same but have different part numbers. I am replacing a broken one on a 98-99 Om 606 and found the earlier cover.

95-96  604 015 01 01
98-99  602 015 01 01

they differ in something, the 602 nr is the older version wich fit 601/2/3 models. the 604 is the later model fits the 604/605/606.
the dif is in the hardware u have to fix to it. but if u can fit all the outsider hardware to it , u can use it.

It appears that the non turbo cover uses a different vacuum pump. Any reason for the different pump on the non turbo?

no is just a date breakthrough, till that date was fitted with part nr X and from that date on Y part number, and of course has to do with the veicle vac consuption.

Thanks for the info, I am replacing a broken cover on a turbo 606, but going to a pressure turbo actuator. The non-turbo vacuum pump would probably be sufficient. The engine is going in a Toyota 4-runner which would probably require less vacuum then the E-300 Mercedes.

usually is the brake actuator that needs the most. the rest is just 500Mb.
and for a swap maybe u end up not needing mutch except for engine stop.

Remeber you need the timing chain sprocket for the dieselpump to. if you are going to use an earlier vacuum pump.

Newer rotary vacuum pump has oldham coupling. And the older diaphragm pump uses an "rollercoster" type drive

Good to know, hence the difference between the non-turbo and turbo timing covers. I think I just need to find the correct cover for the OM 606 turbo engine.
