ZF vs. Vickers power steering pump - Evenglass - 06-27-2015 So went to the Junkyard today and found 3 om617.952, 1 om617 na, 1 240d non-turbo, 1 om603 and 1 om606 na. I swear Florida is the meca for these things. Anyways among other things I pulled 2 82bar power steering pumps, 1 ZF and 1 Vickers. My question is which one of these are better? Parts more avaliable for one than the other? RE: ZF vs. Vickers power steering pump - TurboTim - 06-28-2015 Who cares if there is that many in the junk yard. RE: ZF vs. Vickers power steering pump - Evenglass - 06-28-2015 (06-28-2015, 07:13 PM)TurboTim Who cares if there is that many in the junk yard. Wow. Troll much? Thank you for taking the time to post such a meaningful and enlightening response Tim, or should I call you Lance? RE: ZF vs. Vickers power steering pump - TurboTim - 06-28-2015 Not sure who Lance is but just really asking what the point is? Is there something that can be better with the pumps? Only MB pump I have ever had fail is a tandem ABC pump. Hey let me know where is that junkyard because i need some parts for my om617 grand cherokee, specially the high pressure power steering hose RE: ZF vs. Vickers power steering pump - carlitosgy6 - 06-28-2015 Tomorrow i will let you know which pump i have installed on my ranger, is a cast iron unit, its developing an small leak but still doing fine for such an old pump, i had one made from aluminum that didn't lasted too long but remember they are old already RE: ZF vs. Vickers power steering pump - Greazzer - 06-29-2015 Yes, it's unfortunate to receive a "troll-like" response to a question. I think there was a similar post on PeachParts a while back which compared them or at least discussed the differences. I will try to find it and post the link. I got rid of power steering altogether and opted for manual steering. I don't know if the pulleys for the power steering pump varied, id, different sizes. If you could inspect the sizes, I suspect smaller, even a little, may be better since it will spin the pump more per minute. I have the om617.952 in my Jeep, with 32" tires aired down the 65bar pump struggles offroad. I'm hoping the 82bar pump is a little better, now the question is ZF or Vickers. I've ordered the seal kit for both so I may try both in the end. RE: ZF vs. Vickers power steering pump - DeliveryValve - 06-29-2015 ZF or Vickers, they are both very reliable. You shouldn't have any issues with either. RE: ZF vs. Vickers power steering pump - carlitosgy6 - 06-29-2015 the one on my ranger is a vickers ,it works good but i noticed only one issue, when i go from total left to total right it can get a little hard like is not getting enough flow,i have a rack and pinion maybe thats the issue but has been working for 4 years ,is a cast iron pump, then i have another pump but zf this one lasted only one month but remember they are old pumps |
