OM603 crank pulley on OM617? - Thomcat316 - 08-24-2015 As part of my OM617 --> Dodge Dakota project, I would like to swap to a serpentine belt. This would simplify things, as all the existing Dodge accessory drive is flat-belt. Does anyone know if the serpentine pulley from the OM603 is a swap-fit onto the OM617? RE: OM603 crank pulley on OM617? - Greazzer - 08-24-2015 I don't think so, but then again, one never knows until you try. Not trying to sound like a smart ass. I found a machine shop in TX that makes custom pulleys at $150 a pop. I had them make me a custom pulley for the NA version to run a double belt system. So, the only OM617.912 with a double belt system out there and it was very nice. Well worth the hassle of R&D, et cet. That time investment is now being used for the turbo applications. Now, it's turbo time. I am going with a serp belt system myself. I am going to have them make me one shortly, so a few things in my R&D: 1. It's very doable, and not horribly expensive 2. The tensioner is now the issue I am looking into 3. You can now upgrade the alternator, but you will need to match your alternator pulley to the crank now. 4. Everything should line up fine. The only issue for me is the AC compressor since I have a belt driven one. RE: OM603 crank pulley on OM617? - TurboTim - 08-24-2015 Why not use the 617 accessories. That is going to be way easier then trying to mount the dodge stuff to your motor. RE: OM603 crank pulley on OM617? - Greazzer - 08-24-2015 You're a much more careful reader than I. I did not pay attention to the Dodge accessories part. I think running a serp belt is way better since it frees up a bunch of room up front but I am running only two items: alternator and AC. One has over 12" with a serp belt, but that assumes no water pump. That way, plenty of room for upgraded radiator, AC condenser, and intercooler, plus fans, and still enough room to stick your hand down there. My bad for not carefully reading. |
