Diesel filter / water seperator in the stock 606 location - Grecy - 09-06-2015 Hi All, I'm kitting out a OM606 powered vehicle for a 2 year lap of Africa, and I'm thinking about diesel filtration and water separation. I'm wondering in the stock 606 diesel filter mount is a standard size/thread that will allow me to install a very fine (1 or 2 micron) filter with a built-in water separator? Does the thread or mount have a name? If not, I'll install another filter in the line, before the IP. Does anyone have any recommendations on high quality brand/model for the 606? It's running a 603 pump with 6mm elements and stock turbo - not big power/fuel requirements. Also, will the 603 IP be OK with a 2 micron filter? What kind of flow rating (liters per hour, or gallons per hour) will I need for the 603IP running 6MM elements? Thanks, -Dan RE: Diesel filter / water seperator in the stock 606 location - barrote - 09-07-2015 the IP need positive pressure, like .5 bar all the way , or course if u can feed it with 1 is better. usually the lift pump in the IP is enough to lift fuel past the filter and the pre filter in the housing. of course u can redraw the fuel system , to go in africa i would do that... in the MB system u have a lot of O rings that are prone to failure, for instance in africa u can find "mushrooms" in the fuel and the thing clogs all prefilters and filters , not the injection hardware, so a easy to change filter would be a good choice. hand lift pump , is a must too, u can buy one and install in the same place as the orig 603 lift. check bosch cathalog they have more than 20 models and u need one with hand pumping ability. or any kind of that thing. regards RE: Diesel filter / water seperator in the stock 606 location - Hario' - 09-07-2015 You could add spacers under the filter housing where it bolts onto the head, to raise it up to fit a bigger filter /separator. just an idea.. RE: Diesel filter / water seperator in the stock 606 location - Druk - 09-07-2015 I have this on my 606 conversion. It's a Lucas/CAV filter head with its own primer pump which saves a load of starter churning. The glass bowl was a CAV add-on but needed a longer centre bolt made up. I also did away with the Merc fine fuel filter but still use the standard filter as a secondary. Hey Druk, That looks like exactly what I need. What flow rate did you get on the filter setup? and what pump/elements are you running (I'd like to get an idea if your flow needs are similar to mine) Thanks, -Dan RE: Diesel filter / water seperator in the stock 606 location - Tobulus - 09-08-2015 There are also prefilter with water seperator and hand pump available for big trucks like Mercedes Actros. The flow rate would be more than enough, but these Filters are quite big (about 30cm in height) http://sibeixiu.german.globalmarket.com/products/details/actros-r90-mer-01-fuel-filter-head-0004700469-water-separator-2203818.html RE: Diesel filter / water seperator in the stock 606 location - Druk - 09-08-2015 (09-07-2015, 08:32 PM)Grecy(09-07-2015, 05:11 PM)Druk I have this on my 606 conversion. Hey mate, can I get a zoomed out picture of how you have that mounted under your hood? Thanks in ashcans, that looks slick! |
