606 E-PUMP ELEMENTS CHANGING - 50harleyrider - 03-24-2016

Can anyone here in the USA recommend a domestic IP expert to change the elements in my E-pump to a larger size  maybe 7.5 mm? My F150 swap is finally coming to reality and I want to try the E-pump modded to attain 300hp with my HX-35 and Baldur's ECU. Or should I just send it to Dieselmeken? The Bosch approved shops here would probably freak out if one wanted something besides factory oem elements.

Id recommend dieselmeken edc pumps only , he has a few tricks up his sleeve to get the best from them and you get your lifetime warranty also.

I've got Baldurs ECU, going to wind the EDC pump injection values up when i get it running, would be good to see what is achievable off a standard pump before i go crazy with Dieselmeken Wink

That was my plan also. Anxiously waiting your results. Hopefully you have egt probe? Supposedly egt becomes a problem with the fueling maxed out on the 6 mm. If high egt is not sustained, I'd love to know what is acceptable egt for short bursts like passing someone. Keep posting Smile

EDC pumps require fit and balance only, no mechanical governor mods needed, so anyone with a Bosch bench should be able to do it for reasonable deniros.

RE: 606 E-PUMP ELEMENTS CHANGING - seanyt - 03-29-2016

They need to be setup to flow the same qty of fuel at idle rack travel, otherwise the idle controller doesnt like it.
so even thought they flow more fuel overall who ever fits them needs to know rack travel at idle and the fuel qty from the stock pump.
Then set them from there. after that they are fine.

RE: 606 E-PUMP ELEMENTS CHANGING - baldur - 03-29-2016

If you're using my controller the amount of travel at idle is not that important, but if there's too little travel at idle then idle control can become sporadic. What's important is that there isn't any fuel injected when the rack is at the stop and that there is at least a couple mm of travel before any significal amout of fuel starts to be injected. Also, the elements must be balanced well or the engine will never run smooth.

RE: 606 E-PUMP ELEMENTS CHANGING - Hario' - 03-30-2016

So fit, balance and set idle quantity. Not difficult, I know at least one Bosch bench company in the UK who will fit and balance and I presume set the idle quantity for £200. Perhaps state a fuel quantity variation tolerance between elements beforehand.

I'm just saying with EDC the special Dieselmeken governor mods aren't necessarily needed for a super cheap skate build like mine anyway Tongue

Has it been confirmed that E-pump elements can or cannot be replaced as a DIY project?

Sure, as long as you have a pump test bench you can replace them yourself. Big Grin

theoretically, you could put all the injectors into graduated cylinders, turn the engine over 1,000 times, and then measure the output.  But it would probably have some discrepancies during the start and stop-it's tough to only spin in full revs.

Yeah well since there are no governor functions that need calibration, a test bench for a pump like this doesn't have to be any more complex than say a drill press to rotate the pump and some graduated cylinders to measure the output. Set one element up so that you just start to have fuel delivered at a couple mm of rack travel and zero fuel below that. Then move the rack a couple more mm and adjust the rest of the elements to match the first one in flow. Then verify again that they all shut off fuel when the rack is at the stop and you're done.

So balance cheching a setting does not matter at all right.... neither wot output? I guess i should have bought a drill press instead of a bench tester.... hum Wink
