Coolant leak question... - LewisG95 - 07-30-2016

hi all,

I'm back again to annoy you all...

I have just had a slight problem with my c250 deciding to throw its water out all over the floor.

The temp went up to around 110 and was sat there for about 2 minutes. I then managed to pop some more water in and limp it home with the temp sticking at just over 80..

I have just got the car jacked up and noticed that the large bottom radiator hose below the turbo has split and this is where the water has leaked from.

Now, I know this might be like asking how longs a piece of string but is there any chance I could of damaged the head gasket or rest of the engine with the temperature being that high for that period of time?

Thanks

I wouldnt worry too much. People bury the guages and they live just not very good for the longevity. Main thing is you dont want to hammer on it when its hot. If this was a Cadillac Northstar though you would be fucked!

Or a Honda civic

I seen a Honda Civic get so hot it melted the timing cover!

My 95 civic years ago, the switch for the fan died on me.  I was at a red light for 3 minutes when I noticed the gauge going.  Turned AC off and heat on, gauge went to the normal range.  When at work jumpered the fan.  Week later signs of the head gasket failing started showing up.  All for 3 minutes hot.........

Loved that car, got it at 64K and sold it at 177.  Was never the same after the head gasket failed.

I've got the pipe back on now and the coolant system bled out and everything now seems to be working fine.

Will just have to see what happens in the future I guess.

I know what you mean about the civics though myself and a few mates have previously had turbo d series coupes and a few of them had problems with the HG.

One friend even had his running for about a year turbo'd running about 13psi constant with no signs of failure or problems. He then scrapped the shell and put the engine (and took the turbo set up off) into a del sol trans top and then the headgasket decided to go about a week later N/A lol...
