Best air cleaner for STD engines - 50harleyrider - 09-12-2016 Any recommendations for the cone type air cleaners? I see them advertised for a wide range of prices. I've heard the K&N oil type are great for low restriction but allow big enough particles through to erode compressor blades. For daily vehicles not track cars. RE: Best air cleaner for STD engines - raysorenson - 09-12-2016 Gauze between mesh filters do not flow as well as paper filters with the same filtration area. Paper is my favorite. Foam is 2nd. Gauze/mesh gets picked last. I've also heard the Powercore high tech paper filters are the best. RE: Best air cleaner for STD engines - NZScott - 09-12-2016 K&N is rubbish. You can see daylight through them. I went and bought myself a air filter housing from a HZJ60 Landcruiser. OEM washable filters are available which is why I bought it, you know you can trust them given high dust the vehicles are meant for. My housing happened to have a brand new (non-washable) paper filter in it though so the washable one can wait RE: Best air cleaner for STD engines - CRD4x4 - 09-12-2016 (09-12-2016, 10:30 AM)50harleyrider I've heard the K&N oil type are great for low restriction but allow big enough particles through to erode compressor blades. I switched back to paper and would recommend the biggest paper filter you can fit and easily find at Napa. RE: Best air cleaner for STD engines - AlanMcR - 09-12-2016 Start by putting a vacuum gauge on your existing filter. You will probably find that it isn't very restrictive at all. RE: Best air cleaner for STD engines - R-3350 - 09-12-2016 i use a Fram CA8038(or any other equivalent). its easy to adapt to any turbo, doesn't need a filter housing, and flows more than i will need for a long time. also due to the large surface area it take a long time to fill up with dirt even in dusty conditions. RE: Best air cleaner for STD engines - 50harleyrider - 09-13-2016 Got a photo of your CA8038 installed? Would be a lot more economical as those Powercore are around $90. I google imaged it and it looks like a reducer or reducing elbow and a silicone coupling would do the trick. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-JN4QISq8H84/UIlqumwP8qI/AAAAAAAAAOs/vyjRfTeFMkU/s640/IMAG0305.jpg Thanks R-3350 RE: Best air cleaner for STD engines - R-3350 - 09-13-2016 " /> its a temporary installation until i get the new intercooler in. but it was cheap and fast to install and better than the stock filter. the end of the pipe was just a bit too small to get a snug fit in the filter so i wrapped it in tape till it was a tight fit to prevent leaks. RE: Best air cleaner for STD engines - soltysrsz - 09-13-2016 i wondering what air filter i should install on my w123. I have om606 on it with pipercross air filter. it is loud,i have gravel road to my house so i was thinking to install w124 om603 airbox. it would be enough to 300 hp?? RE: Best air cleaner for STD engines - NZScott - 09-13-2016 Stock MB air filters seem to be pretty oversized compared to other makes with same sized engines so you'd probably be fine RE: Best air cleaner for STD engines - 50harleyrider - 09-15-2016 THX R-3350. Clean install. Right down to the sanitary ell. lol |
