The perfect radiator for petrol W124s! - Nev - 10-07-2016 I'm building a 124 with a 605 at the moment and a last week I hit a bit of a snag: I didn't know, but the petrol and diesel cars have different radiator mounts. This being an M102 originally, the radiator was about 1/3 the size of the diesel radiator. So a creative solution (and a LOT of browsing eBay) was needed. I'm not sure if this information is available anywhere, but turns out a Honda NSX radiator fits perfectly. Just need to TIG some lugs on the bottom to keep it in place, but it couldn't be a better fit both width wise and height wise. You can get them on eBay here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252344357533 I hope this helps someone else one day! Bonus: I can say it has the radiator from a super car RE: The perfect radiator for petrol W124s! - Hario' - 10-23-2016 Nice rad, careful though the petrol rads tend to have less cores and can struggle with a turbo 606. I just fitted a rad from a C230 Kompressor into my w202/606 and now it overheats in traffic! partly due to no cowl on the viscous fan but it wasn't over heating with the big 4 core C250TD/605 rad it came with (before it started leaking) Beers RE: The perfect radiator for petrol W124s! - maxypriest - 10-24-2016 (10-23-2016, 02:57 PM)Hario Nice rad, careful though the petrol rads tend to have less cores and can struggle with a turbo 606. The best rad and the biggest that fits a w124 in my experience is the air con rad that was fitted to the late OM606 'multivalves'. I have one and run it without a fan, only need to turn the heater on in stationary traffic when its a hot day. She's big. RE: The perfect radiator for petrol W124s! - barrote - 10-24-2016 hy , and how diff is it from the w124 with 605 ? assuming we are discussing the engine coolant radiator and not the A/C . The diff in late w124 ´s that i noticed is beeing auto or manual gear box, in the auto gearbox has the fluid coolant inside the engine coolant radiator .... weather they are 606 or 605 equipped ... RE: The perfect radiator for petrol W124s! - maxypriest - 10-25-2016 (10-24-2016, 01:47 PM)barrote hy , I have no idea how it compares to a 605 Rad, however it was a straight fit into a car that was originally a 260e. 2 male 'knobs' that fit into female rubbers. Air con rads had a bigger cooling capacity to deal with the extra load from the compressor. Mine has the oil/water cooler connections, they are not connection to anything as mines a manual. Hope this helps! RE: The perfect radiator for petrol W124s! - barrote - 10-25-2016 i have a W124 220CE with M111 A/C and the cooler is the same as the W124 605 manual , wich in the aftermarket brands is the same as the cooler in the w124 606. i belive the w210 rad fit the w 124 not sure how is the size.... but well worth the digging anyway i can´t dig in the WIS tool, wich has the measures, but i will in the aftermarket brands regards RE: The perfect radiator for petrol W124s! - maxypriest - 10-25-2016 (10-25-2016, 07:17 AM)barrote i have a W124 220CE with M111 A/C and the cooler is the same as the W124 605 manual , wich in the aftermarket brands is the same as the cooler in the w124 606. i belive the w210 rad fit the w 124 not sure how is the size.... but well worth the digging Does that work? That looks a sweet install maxypriest im down in Clacton just starting my build gathering all the parts together for my C124 would love to come up to see your car one day and have a nose around it if i get stuck on any problems with the build Jim RE: The perfect radiator for petrol W124s! - Nev - 11-06-2016 (10-23-2016, 02:57 PM)Hario Nice rad, careful though the petrol rads tend to have less cores and can struggle with a turbo 606. Hopefully it'll be fine, I've fitted a SPAL fan on it so it should pull plenty through when its still. If it still doesn't, there's room enough for another fan! |
