car show - JB3 - 11-10-2009

I think there needs to be some kind of superturbodiesel car show somewhere at some point. There are so many amazing mods that so many people have done on here for mercedes diesels, I just want to see em in person, bring a digital camera and a note pad, and let the plagiarism begin!

I go on these rides down to see Concours and what not auto shows, and Im interested, but especially with mercedes, its like theres some kind of higher calling to see just how little you can change or drive the car after it leaves the factory.

Maybe people will freak out if I say this but-

BOOOOOOORRRRRRRIIIIIIINNNNNGGGGGG

Why the hell would I want to see that? I want to see the cars that are driven hard and put away wet. A car that looks like it came from the factory has no character, we might as well compare a blow up doll to a woman.

I got into this long conversation with this lady at a show the other day about her MG. She went on and on about how it only had 20,000 miles on it, and it was a 73, and blah, blah, blah. At the end I asked her, "So?" She looked at me like I just stepped on her dog.
Thats easy, anyone can lock some car away in a garage for eternity and only bring it out for shows after wiping it with a diaper. Do the same thing while you drive it every day, its got thousands of miles on it, and you make it your own through modification, then you have my attention.

Flashy car shows are always boring, nothing but trailer queens.

I'm far more impressed by cars people DRIVE and maintain in good working order. Like this $50,000 1914 Case Model S (only 150 left in the world)...

..or this 1910 Chalmers Detroit "30". Both were driven to the show and they even let a few people drive them.

The thing that kills me are the plastic bumpered benzes at the concours that are all stock. I mean really now, talk about BORING. I love looking at the old SL's and what not.

I had my 123 Wagon at the Eurofest carshow, it definitely steered the attention away from the factory vehicles. I guess theres something about an old benz wagon with a massive cowl hood and a side pipe. hehe

RE: car show - SurfRodder - 11-12-2009

Saw this RatRod at a car show my cousin and I happened across this past weekend in Vegas.

Check out he I/E on this beast... I heard him fire it up after rolling it off a trailer (not very Ratrod-ish, but w/e) and he did a few laps around the parking lot, belching huge clouds of black smoke from the stack...

I overhead the guy say that the hand crank was a functional backup for the starter.

That was in Diesel Power a few months ago.

Thats why I really like the Primer Nationals in Ventura. Every one of the cars drove there.

This one's powered by a 7.3 International
