300 SDL Tranny Trouble - rmckee242 - 12-06-2009 Made a few short, 5 to 10 mile, trips in my 86 300SDL the other day everything fine. Got in to drive to the beach and no go. The car will not move or attempt to in forward or reverse. Fluid and linkage are fine. My first thought is the pump has gone south. Only cracked open and worked on Ford automatics in the past but never had a pump go out or tranny fail without some warning first. Anything to check before I pull the tranny and venture into unknown territory? Long story short unloaded the Benz loaded the dually and headed to the water. RE: 300 SDL Tranny Trouble - winmutt - 12-07-2009 Are you sure there is fluid in convertor. RE: 300 SDL Tranny Trouble - rmckee242 - 12-07-2009 I check the fluid on a regular basis. It was down less than a pint when this problem arose so i don't see why ther would not be fluid in the converter. When the car is in gear you can tach it to about 2500 and it will attempt to move but does not seem to be in a strain. It is more like a nudge than trying to move forward or backward. RE: 300 SDL Tranny Trouble - CID Vicious - 12-08-2009 Haha, 'Tranny Trouble'...reminds me of when I used to live in Hollywood, of course, there such a phrase is taken in a completely different context RE: 300 SDL Tranny Trouble - rmckee242 - 12-13-2009 Found a relatively low miles transmission out of an 87 SDL. Everything I have found says it will swap. True or False???? Just looking for a little advise guys not the joke of the week........... RE: 300 SDL Tranny Trouble - oel_brenner - 12-19-2009 is your car have the OM617 engine ? in 1987 it should be a OM603 but if you have a very late 1986 with the 603 its a direct swap |
