does the 1980 300sd have a EGR valve?
If yes where is it located ?
And what are the benefits of plugged or closing it off?

All 1980+ turbodiesels have one. Its located on the front of the intake manifold.
Better running engine, cleaner exhaust, higher fuel economy and higher part-throttle power.

Its a pipe with corrugated corners which connects from the exhaust manifold to a valve body which is connected to the front of the manifold. It will have a plastic tube extruding from the top and leading down to the block. really, its the only pipe which connects the exhaust manifold to the intake manifold. it should be obvious.
