Been driving the thing and went to cars and coffee irvine yesterday. It's funny how many people are so confused by my car lol.
The only problem I've had was my #4 glowplug wire fell off and shorted on the injection pump blowing the fuse in the controller. Other than that it's been great. I really love the new rear gears.
Had a motor mount go bad. Car vibrates like crazy. It seems I had a small fuel leak and it turned the driver side mount to mush. Gonna be a fun one to change.

Thanks. I've been trying to source a set of adjustable spring perches. I'm going with a few people to a vw meet to crash it so to say and I want this thing to be slammed but be able to bring it back up later.
yea thats the only thing. these cars tend to have a lack of low.
Why not air bag it you are a master fabricator.... it's on my list to do to my car
I want suspension that I can play in the twistys and autox. I'm not in it just for the looks.

New motor mount and primer pump and she's back to 100%. As a matter of fact I'm taking a road trip as we speak.
I love my w116. Average cruise speed is about 85: 3100rpm
How hard was the primer pump? I still have yet to do mine. It's killing my cold starts, and mileage...
Took 30 seconds lol.
If I pump mine by hand fuel spills all out of it. Do you think it needs replacing? It's the kind you have to unscrew to pump it and then screw it back together when you're done.

I broke it.
Still think the a rod is bent?
No I think it's a precup or something.
I ingested water and it misses out of boost now. Im going to pull the precups and have a look.
I feel additions to the fail thread coming along soon....

I dunno yet. I haven't diagnosed it yet. My transmission just decided to asplode in my ford today.
I'll prob open it up on Saturday.
Fixing the transmission is probably easier than replacing the stupid heater core in our '99 F150, which I've had to do twice
It will be interesting to see what it is, BRABUS said the same thing happened to his engine and we never found out what it was. Haven't heard from him since.
Mine was a water crossing. My alternator funnels water into the intake apparently.

Ok at this time i think it has broken rings.
I've narrowed it down to cyl 5 and I've changed the injector, precup, checked the valves. It sounds like it has plenty of compression (my tester won't clear the oil housing).
When I had the precup out I looked in and checked how high the piston comes up. It seems to be good. I'm going to get a jy motor and port the he's and do a minor build on it.
I also found out that the precups my engine has are larger than the spares I had laying around. I put a spare in and it didn't change how it ran it actually cause a fuel knock too. So I put mine back in. I also have 115 bar injectors. I swapped delivery valves and everything. Still misses and runs rough under ~2500 and out of boost. Once boost kicks in it runs perfect.
My precups are marked 617/03

You prob have a bad glow plug if it's after you start it. Mine was at 175° after driving home from work.
Poss. sticky injector. Test: listen to injector . Place listening aid( screw driver?) on top of injector or on metal fuel line,compare against noise from other injectors. Injectors can stick or bind when cold and be ok after warming a bit,and can also stick or bind at lower rpms. Good luck.
Well. I pulled the head off finally and found that the #5 cyl has a bent rod.
Notice the top of the cylinders where the rings don't touch on #5 is about 10mm lower than the rest. I put 5-600 miles on it like this lol.
As for what I'm going to do? I found another w116 locally that I may buy to pull the engine and trans from. If not I'll junkyard a engine and go through it a little.

I had 2 spare motors but I just scrapped one so the other will be missing a con rod soon. I'm to busy working on my truck and playing on the weekends lol.
larsalan I guess I need to look at this stupid ass drip shit. What you have to like mess with those elements on the pump? What a fucking hassle. then use some wire to hold the throttle open or some shit?

I read somewhere that running over 2bar (with proper fueling) will bend the rods

2 bar is a lot, I can't even run 1 bar in my car.... yet!!
We had some heavy rains and my alternator belt funnels water into my intake and it filled the bottom of my intercooler up while I was idling through a water crossing. When I went to take off it forced all that water into the engine and it didn't compress so well lol.
hey dude, what part of Diego are you in? It looks like maybe Jamul area, the pic at the beginning of this thread with your bronco appears to be near Lawson's peak... I go out there from time to time to work on my Jeep at a friends house and once I finish up school I'm gonna buy a house up there.
edit: on second thought, it looks like it could also be in the Fernbrook-Ramona area...

Update. Haven't had the time to mess with it. It's getting a new engine but it's not a Benz unfortunately. I got a 460/c6 combo for it. The local junkyards that used to have 3-4 good ones each had none last time I went looking. I traded my old Idi 7.3 for the 460 so that's what I'm going to cram in it.

7.3 was turbo and it didn't fit.
The 460 is being mildly built. 350hp/500tq is the goal.
