how to replace an alda unit to be more specific i was wondering if and how can you just swap the alda diafram with the screw on it so i dont have to take off the whole unit i have a lightly used one to replace it with and need it done today so i can drive to work (40.8 miles) i dont want to drive my car in this condition because i am afraid that it might be running too lean and score the jugs and pistons and ruin my new rings that i had installed a few months ago please help i have a 1985 300d L5 3.0L 5cyl turbo diesel (617) on a w123 chassis

Running a diesel lean wont hurt it at all!!! ONLY RUNNING IT SO RICH THAT IT SMOKES BLACK CAN CAUSE DAMAGE

less fuel = less power / less heat

more fuel = more power /more heat

it the opposite of a gas engine

since there is no vacuum to make it idle all they do is lean it out until it idles

Once the screw is broken the ALDA is scrap metal. There is no way to take it apart without removal, the screws are on the bottom and usually require hefty torque to break loose due to steel-aluminum corrosion bonding.
