I could really use an overview on turbine wheel size! I need a practical example/explanation!
I have a chance to get an HY35, but this one has a 7 Blade, 78mm Compressor from an HX35. What will this give me in spool up time vs a regular HX35? Looks like I can get it for $250 or less.
I have an 87 300TDT w/stock turbo. Eventually I am shooting for 275-300HP.
HY35 has a 9cm turbine housing vs 12cm. It will spool up much quicker and make the vehicle usable as a daily driver where the HX35 would return poor low end torque until 2500-3000rpm.
I have read a lot about back pressure with the HY35...would that apply to my setup and my goals of staying under 300HP? I plan on running a 3" straight pipe with this install...likely with a rearmost muffler. Once I get my pump tuned, will the HY35 hold me back from anything?

Ok...you are saying that I'd only get 700cfm at 4800rpms with the HY35 @ 35 PSI? And I thought 35 PSI was too much for these?
What would be ideal? With HY35, Modified pump, intercooler...about where should this put me?

Airflow and fuel are the first limits to power, engine internals and transmission are next. They are said to be good to 300hp with stock internals. But I bet thats with 1/4 runs, occasional track races and daily driving, I wouldn't take it into the mountain highways and expect it to hold together under continuous output.

I apologize for being less knowledgable...I have done a ton of reading but some things are not learned from anything but experience, which I still lack!

Your right foot. Fuel is the only thing that controls power in a diesel.
