So due to the recent death of my '84 300D, I'm shopping around for another w123.

Miles: ~270k
Interior: wood panels cracked, many switches need replacing, upholstery cracked
A/c: not cold, reasons unknown
Etc: strange faint rumble at low speed reasons unknown
85 300D
Asking price: 3200
Paint: gold, original, perfect except wear on roof
Body: straight, no dents
Miles:260k one owner (old lady)
Interior: upholstery cracked, seat springs totally shot
A/c: not cold, reasons unknown
Etc: transmission sorta hesitates to change gears (p->drive, p->rev, etc), engine needs throttle on cold start or it stumbles
80 300TD (non turbo)
Asking price: $2490
Paint: burgandy, repainted. Some rust bubbling on front passenger door at trim
Body: straight, no dents
Miles: 182k

Etc: damn are nonturbos this slow? Holy jesus! Also, hood pad missing, and hood hing springs not attached (hinges damaged? Unsure)
I realllly want a TD but this one is soooo sloooww. Both sedans have their issues as well. Do I pick one, or keep looking? What do you guys think?
(08-13-2010, 12:56 AM)stan 83 300DThats an $800 car, $1000 at best. That guy is on crack if he thinks its worth $2650 with those defects.

Yeah I paid 1900 for mine. I wouldn't pay anything more unless it was perfect with all maintenance records...
Me and my dad got a pristine 1983 300d for $300 with fresh paint and a bad engine
and then got a 1980 300sd with a great engine and a bad body for $400
i agree with all you guys' points, and i guess i should have added some more info to my OP-
i do know that these are not proper prices - the market is inflated as hell. the problem is i work full time AND am in school full time (even for summer semester). i have money, and have almost zero time. if that were not the case, i would definitely be taking a different path. as it stands, i have a $3000 budget, and need to rectify the car situation A.S.A.P. so I'm willing to tolerate somewhat inflated prices.
I've seen some good local cars lately on Craigslist in the IE, OC, and LA
