w140 S350td - Diesel Möhkö
w140 S350td - Diesel Möhkö
Bought a new daily driver for the winter, got it very cheap.
Always wanted a w140 mercedes, specially a diesel one and now i got one
It was pretty well equipt from the factory, usually dieseli w140 are without options, but this one had black leather, electric seats, automatic clima. etc. Also it had pretty low milage on the meter, usually these euro S diesels have over 500tkm in the meter.
Idea is to make some small preps here and there, to keep it non superturbo if possible
Here's few photos in original shape:
Made some modifications to exterior and also to engine.
Made my own software for turbo and IP control, also made new engine harness (old was pretty bad ), K&N intake kit, disabled EGR and custom injectors modded by me. Exterior mods, Eibach Pro-kit, Sachs Super touring, Altech wheels modded by me, facelift smoke crystal rear lights, facelift grill and headlights with xenon lights.
Here's new pictures:
I've always liked the W140 S class they are so over built the doors and glass are just massive! nice car!!!
*drools*

In the USA its the unreliable 3.5L OM603, 147hp.
Outside the USA it was the turbo OM606, 178hp.

(10-23-2010, 01:59 AM)Silberpfeil Could you please tell us more about the diesel they used in the W140?
Displacement, power etc.... Also what else was it used in??

Not the fuel. Only MB knows the actual cause and they won't even acknowledge there was a problem.

(10-26-2010, 02:28 PM)JTY Many have complained that 3.5l om603 is unreliable, but that's only half truth. Here in europe these S350td have been driven hard and long, usually with the same engine (400-600tkm).
Resently i found good thread on this matter were they explaint why there was so many failured 3.5l engines in US and that was because of the low quality diesel. US has lower cetane values for diesel their selling than in Europe and that causes harder knocking and wilder cyliner pressures. It's true that MB made lighter rods for 3.5l engine, but the main problems seems to be in the fuel.

(10-27-2010, 10:03 PM)Silberpfeil What cetane can you find where you are?
I go out of my way to always put 42 cetane in my car instead of the 40 cetane everyone else has here in the states and I definitely notice the difference.

Wow I like it.
Here's few photos of the water injection system.
I tried to keep it as OEM as possible.
So here's more OEM tuning
Looks nice I like the tank it makes for a nice clean install!
What tank is that? That thing is dope!
What water injection system is that. And what nozzles are you running on the 603.

Thank you very much. Will give those nozzles a try.

Tank and pump is made by coolingmist, pump is newer generation 200psi model without the annoying pressure switch, so no pressure humping anymore

I'm running with a 180cc/150psi (208cc/200psi) nozzle. It's rated for 200-300hp.
Today was the first long trip with waterinjection and it seems to be spot on nozzle for this engine. Fuel consumption went down by 2liters, not truthfull because half of the tank wa sdriven without waterinjection, so it should get even better. Drives very smooth, more torque, torque band wider.

Let me know how does the water/methanol work out. I have that available very easily.

Haha I love it. Very glad the water meth was a better mix, I will be running the same mix as well, but wont be able to give results until spring time. Car is in winter project mode currently.
Please do keep us updated with this motor, and the updates sure do love the work, and clean craftsman ship.
Some update on this project. I have been driving around 3000km with the setup and fine tuned the water injection.
With current tune the 1.5gallon tanks lasts for 300km, not so good for MPG but nice power increase when driving WOT
There is big difference in the power if driving with higher meth mix 60:40 and 50:50, 70:30 is too light mix.
Maybe gonna install a 6gallon tank to rear and reverse to original tune, so that it injects little earlier to get better MPG.
Mpg. Do you mean mpg of the actual fuel consumption. Of mpg of water/meth consumption?
