I'm in the research faze of a OM352A build.
I'm currently basically in stock form as far as I can tell but the 125 HP stock is just not enough. Im looking for a decent upgrade to around 250HP. I currently push about 1050 EGT Pre Turbo with a whopping 10Lbs of boost maybe 11.

Thoughts thus far
I have been thinking of changing the Nozzles and having them honed.
A bigger turbo, 10 PSI is really low
Intercooler of some sort.
Turning up the IP some, but I don't want to go to hot

Any ideas or suggestions?
Also does anyone know what the 5 cylinder version of the motor would be?

Thanks

Replace the turbo with a VGT. A Holset HE341Ve would provide excellent response and return a big increase in low rpm torque with stock fueling while providing enough flow to support your 250hp goal.

Hi Dave,

The Merc OM352 is bombproof! We had one of these engines installed in three different chassis where we worked it hard and it never gave a days bother in over a million kilometers. We eventually installed it in a stationary mulching machine where it gave several more years trouble free service. We eventually exported this unit to Africa where no doubt it is still operating somewhere today.

These engines were rated at 130BHP in naturally aspirated form and 168BHP in turbocharged form. These units were available until 1998 and later versions produced in the region of 240BHP with the aid of an intercooler. Mercedes installed these units in chassis up to 18,000kgs Design Gross Vehicle Weights.

A friend of mine tuned one of these engines 20 years ago and installed it midmounted in a Mercedes 307D(Sprinter predecessor)van and 100MPH was no problem to it. Later 240BHP units were very popular for fire tender chassis.

These engines were very tame in factory tune but they really come alive and pull like a steam train when they're tuned correctly. This 5.9 litre engine reminds me of the cummins B 5.9 litre unit....tuners can make them go like scalded cats and they are unburstable.

240BHP is easily attainable with a minimum ammount of alteration.....Keep us posted how you get on...
