How do I turn the engine?
This may seem like a stupid question but I can't find an explanation. I want to pull the ip, This means turning the engine to TDC. I've read "on the crank balancer" which I'm sure is under the valve cover, I haven't pulled it yet. Could anyone specify for me or possibly post a pic of what I need to turn?
oh I just read one way to find TDC. I guess you would need to use a clear tube so you could see when the cylinder is at its least volume

Thanks larsalan. Ok, I gathered that there are markings on the balancer to tell you where you are, whether that's where you truly are or not, my question was what nut or bolt do I turn that will rotate the engine?
I turn the 22mm power steering nut that is attached to the crankshaft by a belt.
Cool thanks
If you can turn the engine at all by the steering pump, the belt is way too tight.
All you need is a 27mm deep socket and a ratchet to turn the engine correctly by the crankshaft.
Really? I turned it that way to do the valve adjustment and it seems like there is good deflection on my belts.
Someone told me to turn it that way because it is easier to reach than the 27mm on the crankshaft. Maybe they had said to tighten up the belt just for the purpose of turning over the crankshaft
I just throw a breaker bar with the 27mm socket on the crank bolt. You will have plenty of leverage and can be extremely accurate, which is what you need when you time the IP.
Haven't gotten to it yet anyway, this car being my daily driver and now only vehicle has made me a bit of a chicken shit about messing with something that important.
