!!! Off Roading the D's !!!
Dunno If I put this in the right place.... feel free to move if needed.
So Garage hit me up yesterday and we decided to meet up to have some fun in the dirt....
Met over in the Hidden Valley Nature Center and then headed towards my house by Lake Mathews (A drinking water reservoir that is closed to the public). We had a blast but a few "retards" (as called by the local Sheriff's) were trying to get us in trouble.
Damage:
Stopped by two sheriff's, Twice ... $0.
Stopped by a Federal Air Marshall ... $0.
Got the helicopter called on us ... $0
Caught on the wrong side of the fence off roading a couple Benz' by Lake Mathews security ... $0
All this because "Retarded people call dumb things in" PRICELESS!
The cars did awesome off the highway, I am very impressed and even though we spent more time talking to the authorities then actually driving, it was a blast!
Some bushes in my grill. and my gas cap wasn't on all the way so I spilled...

Rally racing cleans your undercarriage! She used to be nasty...
Severed My Downshift wire....
Was that 1 quart dent in your oilpan from this or something else? You guys need skid pans!
Well I was low on oil and didn't have any with me soooooo......
Na, that was from over the weekend. Im working on a skid Idea now. Maybe something like on that Carlsson tuned video everyone posts up... A round bar that goes across the front fascia at the bottom to protect that from head on dents and rocks (I dented mine and so did Garage). Then in the middle (a little wider than the oil pan) have a plate that goes straight back under the oil pan, bolts to the cross member and maybe even go back to the end of the trans or even back further to protect the diff. That should take car of everything I think, Plus you could unbolt it for service. The only other thing that needs a cover is the fuel lines than run down the drivers side. I say that because I high centered mine hill climbing at one section yesterday.
(07-20-2010, 08:44 PM)Syncro_G awesome! you guys need to find some rear diff locks - that should open up a lot more terrain for you.
also, I thought I saw a link at peach parts for an OEM skid plate for the w123
-Cheers, C

Yeah Its lowered, cut 2 coils off the front...
Its a fun ass trail, that's for sure.
That looks pretty cool, but I am not sure if I want to offroad my car
I think that house belongs to the Hot Pcoket inventor, someone was telling me a while back about working on the house and how it was the biggest house in Orange County.
I would prefer the 110 FWY through Padadena.
Yeah I wouldn't think that you would want to offroad your SD ..... but you might have to get one that you don't care about so much so you can come play.
The Hot Pocket inventor huh? is he Asian? There are like budda status in the front. You can kinda see them in the pic. Also some Chinese or Japanese writing on the outside of the house.
Haha too bad the 110 runs North and South huh? I gotta go from West to East. I work right by the 110/91
Garage Asked Me To Post These Pics For Him....

Nope. I got the last post on that thread...
You should come down here and I'll show you around ocotillio wells.
There's a few roads up here too that are fun too. (Ramona)
Yeah I'm down in Ocotillio all the time, but yet to have the Benz down there. That would be fun!
I screwed around a few times out there in my merc. My friends have property out there.
This reminds me of my all time favorite Top Gear episode- the one where they take 3 junkers across African savannah. James May picks a W123 gasser and strips everything off to cross mud flats, including the doors. Ever consider doing a set of tube doors?
If you get ambitious, try out the Mohave Road. You'd probably be able to do 99% of it with the W123, but make sure you either skid plate or be prepared to crawl through a couple rocky stretches. There's also one water crossing that gets up to 3' deep, so don't go in the spring.

Also, I think Cap'n America can appreciate this pic, taken from a 300SD somewheres near Bishop

Cool! Another crazy MB diesel enthusiast in Riverside! Here's some photos of my 190D Turbo camping out on the sand near the Salton Sea, and on a pretty easy 4x4 trail in the San Bernardino forest.
Tyler your fucking kidding right!?!
I love the pics! And I know that exact spot by the sea too
Yeah Buddy!
Where in Riverside are you? I'm off Van Buren and the 91 frwy. Mocking Bird Canyon.

I hear yeah man, That's the truth!
I work in Rialto and pass by you everyday haha.
There aren't many old Mercs around at all. I know of a couple 123's that I see often and like one or two of the newer ones (don't remember which body it is)

I forgot to post this pic ... I played in the mud as soon as I got home with the new SD ...
Lol
The 240d rolled off the trailer in my back yard and the front of the car rolled down of my loading ramp and the front bumper is under water.
Going to drag it up to the house tomorrow drain the nasty wvo out of it and put some wheels on it and tow it to ocotillo wells for this weekend.
That should be fun!
