I just wonder how many horsepower the original cylinder head can handle? without modify it with better inlet&outlet++

The head is not the limit, the rods are. The 617 has been known to pass 400hp before the internals become external.

Where can i find some info on a 617 with 400hp?

Not many Finns use the 617, the 60x series is too common over there and gets better results with less work.

thanks forced.. cause here in Norway everybody says that the original head is a way too bad to get much horsepower out of it without heavy modifications.

I'm not shure which engine I shall built on, either 617 or 603, it will be fitted in an 69' modell BMW. I like 617 better, but the 603 could possibly a better choice...however, thank you for the answers. I have to messure a bit on the BMW and think a bit more about it.

thanks forced.. cause here in Norway everybody says that the original head is a way too bad to get much horsepower out of it without heavy modifications.

I'm not shure which engine I shall built on, either 617 or 603, it will be fitted in an 69' modell BMW. I like 617 better, but the 603 could possibly a better choice...however, thank you for the answers. I have to messure a bit on the BMW and think a bit more about it.

I think from visually looking at the head and thinking from an efficiency standpoint, the 617 heads are a hinderance to flow. The actual head is pretty thin. With that design, the ports take a sharp 90 degree turn into and out of the combustion chamber. This sharp turn, no doubt in my mind, will slow down velocity. I think raising the ports and greatly reducing the angle into the combustion chamber would help immensely. But of course, this is my own theory and I have no means to back it up. Big Grin

Have you seen 400+ dynosheet? All I´ve heard is ~360hp at crank of this. Couple other 350+hp 617's too.
