Noob questions on NA 606
Noob questions on NA 606
Seeing the amazing power results people are getting out of the OM606 is tempting me to follow down that path. But I have a few questions!
I have a 95 E300D, which has the NA OM606. I want some more power out of it, but I don't need it maxed. I know a turbo can be added to the NA motor, and I've seen references to 300HP with "bone stock internals".
Does this mean all I have to do is add a turbo and turn up the stock IP to get more power?
I like my 700-mile cruise range, so I don't want to lose that efficiency when I drive politely. ^_^ What kind of fuel efficiency numbers can I expect with a turbo'd stock-pump 606? I hear things about turbodiesels being MORE fuel efficient—truth?
One last question—the NA 606 has the resonant intake to address the lack of high-RPM torque in an NA diesel. I'm wondering if the resonance flaps are going to cause problems when being fed compressed intake air. Will they function the same way under boost, or is the resonance system going to screw things up?
Sorry for all the newbie questions. I've been lurking this forum for a while and getting lots of good info, but it seems like most of the info concerns either 617s or turbo 606es. Can't wait to start tuning a SuperTurboDiesel of my own!
Check out my build you will start on yours right away. I experienced better fuel mpg all together as long as you don't beat on it all the time. I can say it is fun to drive right by other cars from a stand still. As far as the pump goes I just turned up the pump like explained on this website real easy to do. I still have the flapper valves working and it doesn't seem to hurt performance but I also have not tried it with it disconected.
I definitely saw your thread, D.E.Z! Super inspiring. I had heard of people turbo'ing the NA before, but it's great to have pix of a completed one. I guess you're the only person that's done it and documented it?
I'll definitely be asking you some questions in a few months when it's outside weather again here. I don't have a garage, so I'm at the mercy of mother nature.

Jeemu has his manifold done by cutting 606 manifold and welding it back together. See this and this.

There is used OM606 N/A intake manifold
just cut one cylinder off (Cylinder 4). All om605 intake manifolds are plastic
so to do some changes of those not be easy.
My new manifold is made OM606 tdo and AMW dual plenum

you can also cut of (cyclinder 6) and it will bolt straight on as stud pattern is the same.

i was wondering why you cut off (cyclinder 4). I have not tried my manifold to engine yet as it will not fit as the manifold is too long and hits the inner wing. I was working of gasket pattern. Thanks, it looks like im going to have an oil filter issue.

you can if you grind the back of the manifold runner and cut the hexagon nut of the top of the oil filter cap. I have it fitted.
