Myna 7mm vs Floyd 7.5mm Elements
Myna 7mm vs Floyd 7.5mm Elements
I know this has been tossed around in the M75 thread, but this is a bit more focused. Let's say that one wanted to go the Myna route since DervTuning is busy...I have a couple questions:
Supposedly the 7.5mm allow a smoother idle, which is preferable for those of use who want daily driver and not just a race car. Is this true?
Obviously Myna knows what they are doing so why are they not using a 7.5 already instead of the 7.0?
If the 7.5mm are better for idle, then it seems that a Myna build with these 7.5mm is the way to go.
I like the idea of a Myna pump since they are adjustable, what kind of adjustments do they allow?
Any thoughts are welcome!

Myna is the complete package. They have done many pumps and know exactly what settings to use for each engine type.
Yeah, you'd have more potential with 7.5mm and possibly better idle, but you'd be left having somebody with little/no tuning experience for these engines guesstimate the governor adjustments.
To me Myna is worth the extra $500 for pretty much being plug-n-play; adjusting the transmission, maximum fuel and aneroid is all you'd have left to do (assuming you already have the desired airflow mods).

Mynä-pump has settings for max fueling, ALDA operation and max revs without disassembling the pump. For many years the Mynä 7mm pumps have had nice, almost stock-like idle. I bet they won't build you a pump with your choice elements, but with their 7mm or 8mm. Don't see the point using other than those, as they have been proven very good.
Mc Kinney Turbo & Fuel Pump is one place I'd trust. He has been in business 40 years and stays profitable entirely on word of mouth advertising.

He has been in business 40 years and stays profitable entirely on word of mouth advertising.I have loads of future modifications to do to realize the full potential of my Myna pump. My stock turbo with a IC putting out up to 25 psi boost (at 80 mph floored, otherwise top boost is about 20) does not come close to burning all the fuel if the dark smoke I can put out is an indicator of unburned fuel. I know both the IC and turbo need to be upgraded, and other smaller things to be done. All in all I'm very happy with the Myna pump. I'm still tweaking the transmission modulations, but it's now acceptable. I also would like to cut down on idle smoke output, and smoke output at the time from idle to 1300 rpm. With the timing at 24 the engine sounds like a Cummins, while before it was whisper quiet. Prior the transmission shifted perfectly also.

If someone need BIG power and also good working.
It s Mynä Diesel 8mm model. Little modified prechambers hmm.
Hey MTU, how was your communication with Myna? Fairly easy transaction? I know there is a vast language barrier. Are there options for a super tune vs a moderate tune 7mm pump, or is that all taken care of by the adjustments?

(02-06-2011, 07:14 AM)aaaYep- new was never installed, so my engine is the first it's seen. I have too much smoke at idle however. Timing is set at 24 BTDC via drip. Jeemu told me the timing is too advanced.(02-05-2011, 11:48 PM)jonbobshinigin Hey MTU, how was your communication with Myna? Fairly easy transaction? I know there is a vast language barrier. Does Mynä Diesel have a website at all or just physical address and phone #?
I know a Finn that can be my middle man, but still :p
(02-10-2011, 11:08 AM)winmutt No website. Their email address is floating around. Best bet is to wake up at 4am and call them.

(02-10-2011, 05:42 PM)jellydonut Well I am in Norway so I don't need to adjust my schedule but I guess that's what I'll be doing.Ask them what timing the recommend for the pump- I need definitive answer after hearing what Jeemu said.

Timing is more related to fuel type than to the shop that made the pump.
Do you have a retarding edge on your elements?
My experience (after speaking with diesel gurus) is 24 -20 deg BTDC.
24 with higher output, towards 20 with moderate output.
Easy to check: Go late until you see smoke on full/higher load. Then you know that end of injection gets too late.

What is type in the side of that pump?
Mynä told at there is 5hree differend version of those
is it on this side? This is my pump... BTW I tweaked the settings today and got much less smoke at idle while still retaining nearly full power at higher rpms. Now I need to adjust the tranny vaccuum settings.
(02-12-2011, 02:01 AM)tomnik which screw did you adjust to reduce idle smoke?#1- which stops the lever from full travel to the right. #2 does that also, but #1 is a easier, finer adjustment. It also cut down smoke at upper rpm levels also- I am way under boosted across the rpm range. I see no major difference in power/speed after the tweaking, just less smoke.

So, if you get the boost, you get the major difference, right?

(02-12-2011, 08:08 PM)yankneck696 So, if you get the boost, you get the major difference, right?I assume if I add more air I'd burn the extra fuel I have available so yes- I'd have a major difference as in more power.

I asked Mynä of that timing. It depends when pump is made. what timing should use.
15 or original.
