Getting ready for my 5-speed 124 conversion. I have stuff from a 190d 2.5.

Apparently the clutch is 215mm. I'm worried this won't hold up to a 603. I found the manual 300e/300d flywheel specs and am considering cutting the 190 flywheel to match (240mm). I've also heard rumors of Sprinter/GD clutches at 250mm, but don't have specs for those (want the PP to work).

Alternatively I could cut it to something more common, and probably bigger too. I've been eying chevy s10 stuff.

So is this something to worry about? Are 300e clutches available stateside?

what spline do you have if you are at 8.5" they are 14t spline 1" shaft the 86 s10 clutch will work I am using a tremec t5 and re splining it to 14t spline it you are at 11 spline there were some fords that use that spline i think they were in the 9" - 9.5" range

I was confusing the 617 10t (or whatever it actually is) with this. This is 26t apparently. I'd have to find 26t clutch discs if I plan to use the same transmission.

Measurements and partnumbers off of my 190 stuff:
disc - 1861 917 031
pressure plate - 023082137031 typm200x m215
11.5 - 292mm - flywheel OD
10.875 (7/8) - 276mm - diameter of step for pressure plate in flywheel (D)
8.625 (5/8) - 219mm - diameter of step for clutch disc in flywheel (D1)
7.75 (3/4) - 197mm - clutch disc/pp contact surface OD (probably actually 200mm)
1.125 (1/8) - 28.5mm - clutch disc ID

The manual says D=252.9mm and D1=223mm for a 602. No 603 diameters, although they show the wear depths for it. The pictures imply a lighter flywheel and bigger clutch disc for the 603.

For the 103 the letters for the diameter were different. A third unexplained "outer" diameter was added, a few mm off from what the 60x "D" was measuring (inner diameter of the step). They didn't mention what the measurements of the inner diameter were, although it was marked in the diagram. The "outer" is 277.5mm and "D1" is 244mm. For comparison, the "outer" diameter of a 60x goes to basically the edge of the flywheel itself, so around 292mm.

Interestingly the depth of the clutch disc step seems to vary with no recognizable pattern. 602 - 22.5mm, 603 19.4mm, 103.98 25.4mm, 103.94 19.4mm. You'd think the bigger engines would be consistently shallower for greater pressure plate pressure, but the 103 seems to do the opposite.

Haven't found anything on the elusive 250mm Sprinter flywheel. Lots of dual mass info. Perhaps it was a figment of my imagination.

I just finished up my custom flywheel a few weeks back, threw a 240mm Mitsubishi clutch on there with the Mitsubishi pressure plate, to match the transmission. If I want to I can go up to a 250mm pressure plate from a 3000GT VR-4, and have a custom disc made. Cool Big Grin Wink

I say cut it to fit the 240, using an insert if needed to space it out and line up the pressure plate.

I just finished up my custom flywheel a few weeks back, threw a 240mm Mitsubishi clutch on there with the Mitsubishi pressure plate, to match the transmission. If I want to I can go up to a 250mm pressure plate from a 3000GT VR-4, and have a custom disc made. Cool Big Grin Wink

well if you want you can get a clutch from a 95 s10 2.2l and have it turned down just a little

Disc OD: 9 1/8
Disc Spline Diameter: 1 1/8
Disc No. of Teeth: 26

10.5 is officially too big, the pressure plate was a good cm or so wider than the flywheel and wouldn't fit in the bellhousing.

All I know is that when I put mine in there was atleast 1/4" more of worn space on the flywheel I had which was a 103. I will go home and measure the old flywheel surface from the 601/2.

It is my understanding there is an 8, 8.5 and 9. The 8.5 should be the one in the 103 where the 16v got the 9". Got a part number on your friction disk or pressure plate? All I know is that when I put mine in there was atleast 1/4" more of worn space on the flywheel I had which was a 103. I will go home and measure the old flywheel surface from the 601/2.
