Apparently no one I know was aware that the principle non freezing agent in a lot of washer fluid is alcohol. I have been asking around after a friend who borrowed my van to move some boxes poured most of a bottle of washer fluid on a burning alternator and created a 4 foot fireball.

The subsequent explosion of flame burned a lot of his hair, but also caught the rest of the engine of fire, it was only by blind luck that the whole van wasn't burned to the ground. Still a lot of fire damage though.

He also told me that the fireman in one of the trucks that showed up wasn't aware of that either. They both seemed to think that its blueness was more like blue gatorade, and cool and refreshing.

Isn't that the reason people use washer fluid for water/methanol injection?

Ich liebe meine Autos!

1981 Mercedes-Benz 300SD | 156K Miles | 2nd Owner | EGR Disabled [Removal Pending] | ALDA Removed | Straight Pipes | GT2256V??? | Laser Interceptor | Engine swap over summer, hopefully with GT2256V attached...

1981 Mercedes-Benz 300SD | Odo Stopped at 160K (at least 50K more) | EGR Disabled | ALDA All The Way Out | Straight pipes | FM-870 Remote Start Alarm System | B100 Biodiesel | AC Fixed x2 | Trunk crushed in Sad | Retired to garage.

Excessive speeding? It ain't excessive till I redline!

Will the Benz go in sooner now that the gasser gave up the ghost?
