The 300D50
The 300D50
Bwahahahahahahaha!
Snow rules!
And sucks.
But it's $$$ to me, soo it rules even more!
And yes, CNY has the WEIRDEST weather I've heard of.
Up north a few years back, one side of the road had roofs ripped off and enough rain to choke a horse, the other side didn't see more than a sprinkle... Freak microburst or something.
So, how's RI treating ya? Find a job and hunker down?

Got the flywheel finished except for some doweling yesterday,
Also turned the starter down to 110mm from 114mm to help clear the oil pan.
I'm trying to find my M8 bottoming tap to get the pressure plate on there...
LMAO the starter. Haha 2mm is what you needed for clearance?
Yeah, there is VERY little clearance in the design. If I did it again, I'd scooch the starter ~ 2 degrees up along it's arc.
That's nuts!
Oh, the starter clearance was in addition to the cutout in the oil pan. If I removed any more material from the pan, I would have broke through into the crank relief areas for #4 and #5.
Put the flywheel on for a test fit with the spacer, put the starter nose in, she's golden!
Turns over with ease, engages properly... this is very very good sign.
No pics, touchscreen + grime = never.
Haha, yea I used to be that careful with mine, 6 months later just give it a quick rub on the pantleg and its all good. Great project, it will be great to see it all come together.
It's more so my pants+pocket's stay clean, I've already scratched the screen on this thing.
My Droid X loves grease!
I put snap-ring groves in the crank spacer last week, so it's now finished.
Started in on another wild goose chase, because I can, and I'm bored.
Today I threw the water pump housing on the CMM, and pulled all the feature data I could with it, mostly hole centers, the outer profile, etc.
Now I'm using the good old protractor and calipers to get what I couldn't easily get on the CMM, and completing a solid model.
Yep, I'm making a custom water pump housing, because I can.
The stock water pump will be used with the housing, and the neck will be brought out to a convenient fitting instead of the mess it is now.
The thermostat will get it's own remote housing, and an adapter flange will direct the head flow in a more manageable direction as well.
I hope to have the pump housing finished by the end of tomorrow... Hurrah for insane expectations!
If I only had that kinda time. You lucky @*$%@&*$
From yesterday.
Hehe, had to stop and get food before I could finish. (Fish fry trumps parts any day.)
More next week!
I really wish I had the tools you have available to you, I would be busting CNC'd parts like that too!
Looks tits man.
I'll try and remember to record some stuff, it's pretty boring though, what with the coolant covering everything up.
Low feed rates huh? I used to cut some delrin pieces @ 30-45 which was fast for my machine. Was pretty exciting...
~ 28IPM for most of it, carbide and 12K rpm.
Chiploads were a little over a thou a tooth for the ball stuff.
Same for the 5/16" and 1/8" flat's.
Slowest operation was the 3/4" 3 flute HSS flat endmill...
Oh baby!
I used Some China Machine KIWA 510 Colt... Haha max spindle RPM was 5000. I wouldn't bother dreaming of anything as fast as you just mentioned. Lol
It's not the spindle speed, it's what you do with it.
I could have been running 3 thou per tooth no problem at 12K, and had a feedrate up in the mid 70's, but I don't like doing that unless I've proven a part out.
I'm a bit conservative on my chiploads, I like my tooling to last a while.
Same here
Holy shattner! Batman
that is some impressive stuff. Sure do love the work, and craftsmanship. I need parts done soon.
In the bay, bolted to the trans, upper oil pan in place.
It's official, radiator is going on the pass side of the engine bay, with electric fans.
Won't be able to fit one anyplace else.
I've got 30"x16"x4-6" to work with guys, so it's looking like either dual hondon'ts, or a couple scoobyroo rads stacked on top of each other, maybe the benz rad will fit.
Still need to get motor mounts made up, it's sitting on a 1x4 on the front frame rail right now, inch from the frame. I'll be using Mitsubishi motor mount rubber, the Mercedes mounts on the engine, and some welded up brackets on the frame.
I'll have to pull everything again to do the rear main seal, but it feels good to have it in there.
Fun fun fun stuff!

Not sure where I picked that quirk up, could have been from one of the forums or a mailing list.
Don't get me wrong, I love my wheeler, buy no tanky on a Civic...
I told myself I would never drive any jap crap such as that
Eh, honda's aren't bad, it's mostly the stereotype, and the few who killed it in our eyes.
A stock 4-banger civic actually will rank a pretty good butt dyno pull, and get good mileage.
I just have no interest driving one.
I do like Mazda though, anything without pistons makes me randier than Austin Powers.
And of course, Mitsubishi is awesome. They need to cross-license Mazda's wankle engine and throw a quad rotor in something small and cramped for me...
I'm partial to the Del Sol, if it were RWD it would be a vehicle worth considering.
But on that note, the Toyota MR2 is basically a mid-engine Del Sol design..... and they were made in turbo and supercharged versions....
Toyota made the MR2, was marketed at the 40-something going through a mid-life crisis, turned out to be a 16-30yo's "MUST HAV!!!"
looking good!
That's why I like my Elise its powered by a Toyota Celica 1.8 and 6spd but put in the rear! with a turbo 1900# and 250hp at the rear wheels it like an mr2 on steroids!
I would only go with a Miata because its RWD. Man sorry bout the off topic-ness I started!!!
Miatas are for girls, a "secretary's car" like the Mustang. I'd only take one with an LS1 conversion...

Here is me being a girl in mine....
CHODE RALLY
The upper pan pics/build log are in the "custom oil pan" thread, I'll link to it when I'm not babysitting a CNC machine.
The minute you walk away, its gonna crash lol
Don't say that...
My Monday was hell, and the machine repair budget is one optical tool touchoff unit lighter...
Well I dunno how much those cost but I had a $1600 3/4" carbide tool in the machine, Looked kinda like this
pocketing out a 6" tall block of 6061.... Was using air to blow the chips out... Well you see after I walked away the air nozzle moved and the chips collected, thus buiding up on the inside of the walls as the cutter was trying to pocket. Enough chips built up and it snapped the shank in a loud smokey destructive kinda way.
Ouch
haha I'm self taught!
New (to me) parts on the way!

With some new rings and sleeves and bearings it should be like new!

Whoa there pardner, sleeves aren't being replaced unless they absolutely need to be! No need to spend $204.85 if the hone is still left... Remember, my engine only has 106K...
