om617a or 82 300d I am getting ready to do some super spring tuning valves, turbo, alda and I have read so much about alda tuning well I figured I would post and see if I can get the real truth here some say remove it totally others say 1/4 turn ccw till black smoke appears then cw just a bit
1 amusing the banjo and all alda lines are functioning properly what is the proper way to tune it
2 the turbo kkk and garret I have one of each about 14.5 psi boost should be a safe max I have also heard that you can put in a valve on the waste gate line to restrict flow to tune the psi any one heard of this
I usually max the adjustment on the ALDA loosen the nut and turn the screw out ccw until it stops don't force it any more and then cw an 1/8turn and lock the nut back in if it smoke to much at idle turn it cw until your happy with the smoke!
Yes you want to back the screw out until you see smoke when revving WOT in park or neutral.
In my case, I didn't see any smoke so I completely removed the ALDA and that is when I got a nice little puff.
I think every pump and engine is a little different, especially after the kind of miles, operating conditions, and care these engines see...

It's called a boost controller. Course on the KKK you just adjust it directly since it's easy.

It's called a boost controller. Course on the KKK you just adjust it directly since it's easy.
The Garrett DOES have an adjustment, you just have to disassemble it, which is a PITA.... It is much easier to just add a controller in-line...

maxed out ALDA + full boost without black smoke means that the full load adjustment is too lean.
Theoretically the correct way is:
Simulate full boost on ALDA, ALDA adjustment maxed out. In case the ALDA is not leaking, pressurise it at 1.1 bar and keep the pressure.
Then test drive and check for black smoke at WOT.
Adjust max. delivery with full load adjustment until only a bit of black smoke is visible.
Connect every thing correctly and reduce ALDA a bit.
Done like that you should get the complete range of ALDA operation with max delivery (WOT and full ALDA enrichment) without (too much of) black smoke.

I noticed how an adjustment screw limits throttle movement...is this some sort of governor?
seems like this screw will limit WOT.

IN would say to wait for the new tutorial of how to adjust your pump. Please don't beg for it, the person getting it together should allow for better power than FI did.

(05-29-2011, 01:50 AM)Hercules May be just luck!!! Turned throttle stop in up to three turns ,on 35 or more pumps with out any binding,will need to readj. vac. control to trans. Always recheck to be sure all is ok.

I know this isn't scientific:
I have a spare IP sittin on the bench, so I pulled the side cover off and cycled the throttle movement a few times before making any adjustments.
Turned the throttle stop, a 1/2 turn at a time...cycling the throttle a few times during each adjustment.
I got a good 2 1/2 turns before It seemed to sense the slightest sort of lazy-return in the throttle linkage.
