I have come a bit of a plateau. I've installed the myna pump and now I need the next step. Please help me make that next step. My 1984 300TD with the normal 617-952 has an Blackstone (saab) intercooler right next to the reclocked stock turbo. It's cooled with air from the stock air intake location. The turbo is fed with a m117 air intake system beside the radiator going thru a GM 3.8 liter engine air filter box- which has a K&N pleated filter that is placed directly in front of it. The turbo puts out as much as 28 psi depending on the level I set the IP at. The previous setting with the maxed out stock IP was around 17. The exhaust manifold is coated similar to jet-hot. I have the VW AAZ two stage injectors popping at 150 bar with newer monark nozzles. Of course I have the egt and boost gauges. I run Mobil 1 diesel oil. The front end is lowered with vogtlands and HD's. You can see the pics in the car gallery- it's there.

What is my next step as far as the engine is concerned? I want more power on both the low and high end of the rpm range. I do not have time to step up a full VGT system, but have some money if someone wants to fabricate one and I install it. Help me spend the next $1000 with your suggestions.

How bout an HE351CW. Should push more boost with less heat, plus it has a small exhaust housing so it won't be laggy.

At the expense of the low end.
The ideal thing would be a 2359 or slightly bigger vnt. It's not really that much more difficult than a regular turbo swap

1984 300D 4-speed ~200,000 miles
7.5mm M-pump, GT3582 turbo, F-Tune Performance intake/exhaust manifolds, A/A intercooler, 315 nozzles, Enlarged prechambers, Bosch 044 feed pump, Custom lightweight flywheel with 240mm clutch, Lowered, 17" AMG rims - 300 hp OM617 project
1985 300D 280,000 miles RIP
2001 F350 7.3 DP tuner, 4"exhaust, S&B intake

Buy my HE341 Big Grin. It is just a wee bit smaller than the HE351.

Ditch the 3.8 GM filter, it does not flow enough. Welcome back.

I know the flow rates for the 3.8 but it does have the higher flowing (but worse filtering) K&N. There is very little room for anything else and still have a cold air intake.

I'd love to have a VNT, but putting a system together is too time consuming for me right now. I'd buy a system if someone wants to make it and then install I it, but getting all the parts and engineering it is not in the cards for me.

Next step. More air.

I wonder saab intercooler might be a restriction. Having it on a flow bench would tell.

I think a Cam swap will help. Contact Colt Cams http://coltcams.com/ to see what grind he can make for you.
http://www.superturbodiesel.com/std/show...?pid=10564

You might want to try a GT28R or better a GT30R ball bearing turbo for your lower end and not have to mess with the VNT.

If you can find a VNT setup, I think the GT2359v or better the GT2360v would be good for the car.

Gt3076r turbo if you want some bottom end still and have some good flow. Personally with that much fuel I'd try a similar setup to what I have (hy35). I'd love a pump with bigger elements right now but I'm trying to leave my Sd at the point its at right now so can can keep putting money and time into my 242.

Except for the easiness id go with the newer internally wastegated setup.
But that's like 1600$!! I paid 350$ for my hy35w that was professionally rebuilt.

Remember this is a daily driver, and I'd rather not put out too much smoke at lower rpms. Would the GT30 be too large and spool slow so that a good compromise would something a bit smaller?

I have a stock exhaust- with just the rear muffler removed and replaced with straight pipe and a downturn. How much louder might it be with the center muffler gone also? Is it tough to increase the size of the exhaust with off the shelf parts and self assembly? That I can do. Where to get a larger flex-pipe?

These cars really arnt tooo loud with a straight pipe. I would say go for it. You can always add a glasspack later if you dont like it.

How about a port and slight-polish job? How about polishing the pre-chambers? These probably arnt gonna be a major power gain, but id think it would definetly do somthing.
Along with a turbo upgrade, how about doing a intercooler setup like Dieselboys w116, front mount it so the intercooler is getting maximum airflow. Do you have a w115 intake manifold?? That would be a good idea. How about getting some headers welded up instead of a exhaust mani?

Stock exhaust still?! I'd get a 3" on there and go with it. I had stock size straight piped and when I went to 3.5" I gained 5psi. If I was to do it again I'd do 3" with a single straight through small muffler at the back.

Then would be turbo.

I personally think the GT30 ball bearing turbo is perfect for your application.

You'll have to make it. Any muffler/exhaust shop should have universal flex pipes that they can weld up.
