Speedometer cable. Flat and/or square.
I pulled the speedometer cable from my parts-car, as it was looking brand new. The one that sat on the forest-gearbox was full of rust, and didn't have the threaded part on the speedometer end.
I pulled it out, and was prepared to fit the "new" one.
To sum things up.. It's different.
The one from my parts-car has a flat, wide end. The one that sat on the trans has a smaller end, probably the same size as the cable end which goes in the speedometer.
My parts car is 1983, the forest engine is 1984. Did they change the cable for the 1984-models and onwards, or is it just random?
Thanks. Does anyone know the part number for the new-style cable? Thinking about ordering it from autohausaz.com, together with the rear subframe mounts, both rear brake hoses and the cable for the transmission.
I've ordered parts for my E32 750i from them before, as it was cheap as hell and they had everything in stock. The quality of the parts I recieved was also good. The price of the parts from autohausaz is less than half of the prices for the same parts here in Norway. As it is a old car, I'm pretty sure that the parts is not in stock and will have to be ordered.. So the wait would be the same...
EDIT: Wow, that made me look like a spammer.. But I'm just writing down my thoughts
The square and slotted versions could be found on all years. Which one are you looking for exactly? Email autohaus and let them know which one you are looking for specifically, tell them to have the ware house eyeball it for you. They did this for me and worked like a champ. Be aware that they also come in diff lengths.
I need the square one.
I found the part number for (what I'm pretty sure is) the square one. The order is shipped, so I hope it's correct both end-wise and lengthwise. I'll post an update when I recieve it
1235428207 Speedometer Cable; 1460mm
Is the part number for the square one It did fit perfectly. The speedo is shows a good 10-15km/h more than actual speed, but that's fine. Atleast it works
