Spring compressor problem, HELP!!!
Spring compressor problem, HELP!!!
Right then, I've been to fit the front springs on Cunning Plan, this afternoon.
I got my new, special tool, spring compressor on the new spring(I'd already cut the old broken springs out), slotted it in place, and loosened it off, all in about 5 minutes, very impressive.
Then it happened, the telescopic centre piece of the compressor is about 2mm bigger than the hole it's meant to come out of!!!
So, do I enlarge the hole, or take some of off the tool?
It's only the top 40mm of the tool thats too big.
Here's a few pics:
(The car isn't as rusty as it looks in the pictures!!)
What do you guys think?
Cheers Frank.
That's a typical occurrence. 99% of the time you always need to widen the shock tower hole up on a w123 to get the tool through.
.
I vote make the hole bigger. Going to be much easier to do that than shave down 2mm from the whole top 40mm of the tool. Plus, 2mm shouldn't make a bit of difference for structtural strength.
Thanks for the advice guys.
I had about 30 minutes with a coarse flap wheel in my cordless drill.
It's done the job, my new springs are now fitted, now I can push the car round the garage!!
Time to start a million hours of welding!!!!
lol about the welding
