I have the vacuum line from my trans modulator hooked up straight to the vaccum pump on my OM601. Is this incorrect? Should it somehow route through the IP? I've heard mention of an IP vacuum valve?

1984 Mercedes 190D, A$$ Packed then totaled by ins. company.
However I was able to utilize it's heart to give life to...

1987 Suzuki Samurai, Powered by MB OM601 and 4 speed auto.
Converted by myself with homemade engine mounts and a custom intermediate shaft. Turbo charged with Mitsubishi Mighty Max Turbo and custom Intake plenum, exhaust manifold and top mount inter cooler.

On my old 80 300sd there was a throttle valve that hooked up to the linkage it varied the amount of vacuum like a gas car would full at idle for soft shifts and none at wide open throttle for firm hard shifts!

Remember these transmission where designed for gas engines with vacuum at idle and none at WOT! It should varied with the throttle body/throttle linkage!

Here is a pic its bolted right on top of the IP at least on the older models

There is a vacuum control valve, you also need a few orifices. You should really not drive the car in its current condition as you are going to cause damage to the modulator.
