S123 300TD Turbodiesel
Year: 1981
Colour: 881
Interior: green (hideous, can't stand it, will change it to black)
Rims: BBS Mahle (took them off W126 380SE some 6 years ago), 16" with 205/55 tires on them, they need to be refurbished (sandblasted and repainted)

Rest of the stuff about these cars you guys pretty much know. It's a bit banged here and there, but that's to expect from a 30 year old car.

Photos: 1 2 3 4 (sorry about the crappy photos, but once I got out it suddenly got very cloudy and dark with rain starting, so I had to take them quickly at my neighbours driveway (where I usually park))

And I got this for about 130 USD (I'd say that's a bargain).

Hopefully I can resolve that fuel consumption problem, so I can enjoy the car.

The 5 speed is in, it shifts quite smoothly. Smile Sorry no photo's, because friend and I installed it at his place (120 km away), 'cause he has a car lift.

Also replaced prop shaft carrier, the old one was completely shot.

I also found out that my car has KKK turbo. Undecided

The Blow by doesn't seem bad. When I got my most recent Benz it had a lot of blow by, but after driving it hard, it doesn't have any!

I like that throttle linkage, its so simple! Do you have any close up pictures of that?

Sorry Capt', didn't snap any photos today (will do tomorrow). I was busy earlier today and in the afternoon I was battling that f@$#ing primer pump, finally gave up for today. Impossible to get it off with a pair of pliers, and my 24mm wrench is so worn out it's actually likely 25.5mm. D'OH Lot of sweat in hot weather for nothing. Angry

Thats a sexy linkage!

Hey! on the primer, if your trying to take off the whole thing, its just (3) 10mm nuts and it comes off the IP! I thought the big nut on the outside held it to the IP but that just lets out the spring and goodness inside haha

Sigh. Taking out battery without taking air filter housing off seems impossible.

I checked turbo shaft, no play whatsoever. That's nice, I would say.

I haven't been driving a lot lately, but valve adjustment finally came on the to-do list, so I gotta question. How long should 27mm socket be to reach crank bolt? Yes, engine can't be turned on steering pump, already tried that.

Just a regular socket with a short extension, or deep socket with no extension should do the trick

Since you have a manual I'll throw this one out... I tried turning my father in-law's 240D crank by the PS bolt and it wouldn't go. I realized since it's a manual I needed to put it in neutral. My car is an auto so this didn't come to me right away. Took me a couple minutes to figure it out but once in neutral I was able to spin his crank by the PS bolt. If you only have manual cars this might be 2nd nature but for me it didn't come to mind right away.

'87 300D Turbo "Roxanne" - #22 head - 400E brakes - EGR Delete - 17" Staggered AMG 5 spoke rims from CLK500 - 5 Spd manual
2007 Chevy 2500HD CCSB Duramax with about 400-500 rwhp depending on the tune I use Big Grin
1983 300D Silver Exterior/Black inside - Sold and will be missed, may we never meet in a PnP.

How is it possible that some locking nuts (bottom ones) on valves are bit too wide for a wrench (tried with both)? Anyone else experienced that? If I remember correctly 3 out of 10 were fraction too wide, and I did manage to force the wrench in, but it wasn't easy.

BTW Taking the fan down is Dodgy

I've seen that happen on some. I think its from someone rounding off or starting to round off the nuts from poor angle or poor fitting wrenches. I've had to deal with that on a couple different engines now. It really sucks when it's cylinder 4 or 5 with no room to work back there!
