Oil Burners 80 300CD
Oil Burners 80 300CD
Well here we go I have been avoiding to do this till the car was more done but I have have been working on this car for almost 2 years and so I should start writing about it.
My first start to the W123's was 10 years ago with a 1985 300TD a great car till I killed it and sold it!
I got married again and found out my new wife had a 1980 300cd in storage, so when we got married I got it out. I thought they were always nice looking cars and thought this would be a great project. I will post a picture of how it looked then later.
I Opened the hood and found that she had been running it with the air cleaner cracked and the intake manifold leaking badley needless to say the engine ran like Crap! To add to the misery of my dreams the car only went into 1st and 2nd gear and 1st slipped so bad the engine would over heat I basically had a good shell to start with and a Crappy drivetrain
I Started looking around for a donor car and found out my uncle had a 83 300D that should be totaled due to being wrecked so many times and the car dog tracked almost a foot, luckily the engine was in great condition and the trans had been rebuilt the year prior. Here is where my project really starts. I ripped both engines out of each cars and made stands for both engines.
Disassembled the turbo motor down to the block and head and steam cleaned every part. Inspected all the essential parts and rebuilt with all new gaskets and seals and filters. Now It gets fun I powdercoated all external parts I could!
I must mention I worked for Caterpillar for 10 years so you may see some influence in my work.
Now its assembled for the most part!
I Have now decided to strip the car completly and repaint a Light mettalic Powder Blue. So I am in the middle of strpping the car down.
To add to all my projects I have also decided to convert to a Manual Transmisson and as you have seen befor that did not stay normal looking. I Inspected the trans and it seemed ok so I just sprayed the housing and powdercoated the Bell housing and attachments and clutch pedal assembly.
This is where I am at on my forever project will try to post more updates as I go now!
All those links are broken, maybe only you can see them? I went to the me.com where they are and am not authorized to look at it. Surely std.com is not authorized either.

I dunno I usually host them somewhere else and img tag them in. I also don't use me.com. That's your apple webpage, right? I'm sure they have a public url for the pics you just used your private usl or some such.
Also people upload them to std.com but I've never done that so I can't speak to the ease/effeteness
Can anyone see the Pics...if not how have you posted pics befor?
I looked at the code. You have the right BBcode tags. Just that me.com won't allow access. I always use photobucket. Have you used that me.com succesfully before?
Your first image path looks like this...
https://www.me.com/ro/joevavken/Galleries/100007/MB%2 0parts%203.jpg ......etc
no one can visit https://www.me.com/ro
except you I bet, cookies and all that jazz. You need a public path
Im working the issue now but have a feeling wont be able to do anything till I get home! I cant see anything from Photobucket on GOV computer but I see some others dont know how they posted pics was hoping to get a little more help with this I am not so computer literate as I should be!
You can click on the "preview post" button and then upload the attachments, then insert them into the post.

Ok I like yellow engines now cause if u have any leaks it's easy to spot were it's coming from no matter what fluid it is and I just really Like yellow. I just wouldn't paint the car that color...There won't be anything John Deere on or near anything of mine!
I like the kitty cat yellow.
I was gonna say it looks like an industrial yellow or CAT yellow, either way looks sweet. And i applaud you for not liking john deere also!
Finally got Flywheel bolts in the mail and installed flywheel now I need clutch bolts just going to go buy those and install the trans to engine this weekend. If I feel lucky I will test fit in car this weekend.

Don't reuse the flywheel bolts once used you have stretch them to there max and if you choose to reuse, you run into the issue of possible catastrophic failure. Read in this forum you will see were people have done that and suffered from that! Not always catastrophic but they did run into issues. Not trying to be rude.

I finally got to work on the car again, it aint much but it took me about 6 straight hours to do it. I did only half of a engine bay but it is completly oilless and grime less. Here is some pics to be jelous about
Dirty Engine Bay
Clean Engine Bay
Unfortunatly the Left is still dirty but the right is completely clean I will do the left after I remove some more parts.
What do you all think If I paint the engine bay Satin Black the car will eventually look similar to this But all blue and no special lights on the front and siIlver mesh wheels and hopefully a 89 R107 front Air Dam
I will take picks of the engine and transmission bolted together tomorow and post....SORRY I keep forgeting to take that picture!
Here is the Pics of the Engine and Trans Bolted together finally
I'm finally getting somewhere on this thing!
Time and effort is all anything takes. Your engine looks great and your plans are well liked by my personal opinion as far as the change of the exterior color and air dam. I like/LOVE the BBS style gold wheels in the picture you posted but "I WOULD" go for an 18" staggered fitment setup. Best of luck and keep up the nice work and attention to detail.
THE BEST OR NOTHING!

Awesome! And even better to see the manual trans!
