I am very curious to see what this HX35 is gonna do on a max load 603...I have my HX35 just sitting here waiting, assuming it wont spool practically for daily driving until I upgrade the pump.

$1000 later, I have a #22. As Lance was kind enough to point out the plug on #1 is welded. As soon as it gets here I will take it to a machine shop.

Severely frustrated with the stupid turbo adapter. I left the manifold and adapter at one shop for a week and got nothing. Left it at another shop for 2 weeks and got nothing. Decided to do it myself and properly. Its irksome because its 90+ out every day and my 85, which is eating a valve, has no AC. Blegh.

Yay, my chuck for my drill press came in early last night, will start on the adapter tonight. As soon as its done I will be able to mock up the pluming for exhaust/oil drain/charge tube. After that the only thing I will be waiting on is the U tube from the UK. hopefully it will be in next week in time for the meetup.

Almost done. All I have to do is sort out the exhaust and get the right size hose for the oil drain. As you can see this would be a drop in for a 602.

My t3/t25 adapter and the silly U tube:

On the bottom I have 4x10mm socket caps counter sunk and ground flat. On the top I have 2x8mm socket caps per side. One is missing because I managed to break off the tap into the adapter on the missing hole. I tried to drill it out without any success (too hard). If I were to do this adapter again, I would use 1x8mm socket caps on each side and then 1x6mm socket cap on top and bottom. I also used a bit that was too larger on the 10mm socket caps, I would use a smaller (1/2"?) bit and just grind the cap thinner like I did on the 8mm socket caps. This was the first time I have ever drilled into any kind of serious metal, I think it came out quite well.

As you can see the compressor outlet aligns quite nicely with the stock cross over tube. All I had to do was grind down the mount bolt on the crossover tube to make it round.

I had the stock mb oil line modified to fit the stock holeset oil line by these guys http://www.hydraulic-supply.com/html/loc...bleton.htm. They charged a nominal $20 to flare the metric tube to fit the standard sized adapter and braze the end on. Really the value in this job was the comedy show these guys put on, they are like an old married couple and had me crying I was laughing so hard. I did take the line to 2 other places first that refused to do it because it was metric. These guys rock and are really down with the racing mod spirit.

Depending on the size of the gap, you can either use exhaust tape or a slip over clamp for joining two pipes end to end.

82 300SD aka The Flyin Pumpkin (Gone): 7.5mm super M-pump, T3 60 trim turbo, Coldish air intake, A/W intercooler, propane injection, SW Boost and EGT gauges, Monark 265 nozzles, ported/polished cylinder head.

84 Euro 300D 4 sp: White with black trunk and hood. Blue cloth interior. Manual everything. 300DT front swaybar. C320 17" wheels. Now with the Flyin Pumpkins engine!

Probably. I honestly don't know, the parts.. I just took it to the hydraulic shop and they did it all for me. They do have a location in Orlando. The restrictor and ss line came from the he341 I bought, so I would imagine you can pick those up at any dodge place.

Pics!

Reused airfilter from 617, if everything works out I will be getting a new filter. As you can see the stock air tube from manifold almost fits. I think I am going to carve the receiver out of the stock intake hose and attach it to the black tube (notice the electricians tape covering the hole I had used on the 617).
Anyone know what the resistance on a K type thermocoupler should be? It was around 10ohms, I am hoping its still good after I accidently ground the starter through the shielding on the thermcoupler wire (lots of smoke).
I really think the hydraulic shop did a good job on the fitting there!
EGT probe. Tonight I am going to fire up the Arduino/Android app I wrote for this and see if everything works.
The intake to charge air coupling is a bit of a kludge right now. Thinking about machining the lip off the turbo and then modifying the crossover tube for better fitting. Pretty sure this wont hold under boost.
So much more room without the MAF. I think with some judicial hammering I may be able to refit the sound wall back in there.

The GAP! Not sure what I am going to do about this. I need a temporary solution to do some test drives and get the car to the muffler shop. Suggestions?
I imagine a new downpipe is going to be required in which case I might as well do a whole new exhaust....

I imagine a new downpipe is going to be required in which case I might as well do a whole new exhaust....

what about......hmmmmm some flexible exhaust pipe temp to dump it at the ground instead of your engine bay.

also why not re clock the turbo so it is more of a striaght shot? too much work? looks to me like a single c clip. which is verrryy easy lol.

or better yet. just intercool it Big Grin

Yeh, I'd reclock it. Of course I'll be routing mine downward and into an intercooler. I wouldn't modify the Turbo lest you find down the road that a different turbo would be more appropriate. I am sure you have considered this.

Is that the ideal place for egg probe?

I am about to yank my MAF crap out myself.

And yeh, you may as run a 3" straightpipe...you can modify in a muffler later if necessary. This is my plan.

Actually the C clip is a PITA. Its HUGE and requires 11" angle nose pliers. I *might* be able to rotate it a few more degrees. The problem is the mounting tabs for the waste gate. It is already clocked about as far as it can go without modifying the WG mount. The only down side to this turbo is the stock setting has it pointed right into the block Sad.

I took it for a test drive today. It takes a bit to spool but when it does it takes off. Cant wait to get the exhaust fixed and get the EGT and boost gauges setup. Maybe a dyno and track day are in order Big Grin

I will probably take the turbo off again and have the adapter plates machined down some to make them flat.

what i did on one of the turbos i pulled apart is i just used one of the mounting holes for the waste gate (just made sure it was extra tight) so it gives you that extra 20 or so deg between the holes and will still open the waste gate properly.

edit- WTF why is the wastegate actuator mount welded on to the compressor housing?!??!! makes no sence!

so i understand your delma. which blows. i shall ponder and see if i can think of anything help full. (other than cutting and remounting the wastegate actuator mount)

Went for first real test drive today, got the exhaust sorted out until I can afford a custom setup. Yes the intake plumbing was temporary! That lip on the turbo blew a whole in the silicone (cut right through it). I had to stop at Home Depot and get duct tape and limp home.

The not so good news, spooling only starts at 2100rpm. The good news, seems to be fully spooled by 2500! I will reclock it and find a perm solution.

im sure the spool will be a tad better with a proper down pipe and then once its flowing right. (clocked right, no leaks, machined down adapter plates) but as im sure you know its a larger turbo so itll take a bit longer to spool and imo 2500 isent that bad esp cuz we are autos so we stay in the power band more so and never go out of boost.

looks like you have done the guess work for me. once i have money ill probably be using this turbo. im trying (first) to max out the pump so ~200 whp right?

edit- btw my vote is just run an open turbo Wink (with a filter obviously or screen if your feeling adventuresome)

I ground most of the lip off the compressor out last night. Need to get a smaller grinder to do the rest. The good thing about the C clip retainer ring on the compressor. I was able to reclock the housing on the engine just by turning the housing. Total win.

Alrighty. Went to harbor freight last night and got a 4" grinder and a few other goodies (that will teach my wife to leave the Sunday paper laying around without yanking the HF ad out). I went to Advanced Auto for some new silicone adapters but alas they did not have a 2 -> 2.5". I figured it was time to go to the source:

Its about 45 min away from me. They had a few cool cars out in the parking lot (I didn't get a close shot wanted to get the car done).

And they had one of these in the front window:

The 2"->2.5" adapter is just long enough that with a 2.5" ring welded into the OE intake pipe it will all fit with one nice piece. The blue crap I got at AA is not nearly as good as the stuff at summit. I forget the name but its fabric reinforced, thinner, and clearly better quality. I have a 90' of the same stuff from older projects.

Still no boost or EGT gauge hooked up. I am not hitting 16psi (yet) but I have been keeping it pretty minimal lacking the EGT setup.

Mine has been seeing alot of 5k lately. So first gear is pretty crappy but second and third get quite lively. I hear the whoosh of a leak but that will have to wait to the weekend.

I have lots of leaking both oil and coolant. Coolant probably from tstat housing and oil from the drain flange. If anyone else considers this project please pay attention to this :

Hopefully I will get some more diag on the car this weekend. Really been letting her sit till I can get the new head on. The clacking is just to effing annoying.
