Identifying an old iron 5sp
Identifying an old iron 5sp
Hi,
I have an iron 5-speed that I'd like to replace gaskets and seals on.
the main case has the following part number:
117 261 12 01
the 5th gear/output case has:
117 261 07 02
typically, that would mean it came from a W117 but I haven't heard of that body style.
Other than the odd numbers, it looks like a typical euro iron 5-speed
Try to see if you can find a part number that starts with 7. I went through the list of Manual transmissions in the MB parts catalog and they all start with 7.
This is not a parts number, this is a casing number. Thing start getting really tricky here. I have been told by Classic Parts that they dont track any parts that were casing only.
Call Classic Parts and see what they can do fo you. Or try Rusty @ buymbparts.
That makes sense and explains why those numbers dont exist in the MB system
Thanks! I'll try Rusty and I'll see if I can find a 7... number on it
I think the iron transmissions had a little metal plate on them with serial and gearing info. this one doesn't have that though.
