Toyota pickup OM617 swap
Toyota pickup OM617 swap
well ive been gathering parts to do my remote oil filter setup and got this turbo oil line to -4 AN hose adapter off ebay and noticed the oil hole is very small on one side the website says its to prevent to much oil pressure going straight to the turbo but it seems to small to me. What do you guys think should i drill it out a little more or leave it?
well i finally got around to removing the in tank pump and that was definately the problem. Its now way more smoother at higher rpms.
Just added a piece of hardline in place of the pump
While I had the tank dropped I also modified the filler neck so I could fit a diesel nozzle in it
Just took a large punch and knocked out the restrictor
Then welded back up the holes from the plug welds ripping out and voila!
ok so ive been having a couple different issues now that ive been driving the truck everyday. The first is that I need to put a filter on the pickup in the tank because I will be driving then all of a sudden lose basically all power due to the fuel line getting plugged so i just pull the line off at the pre filter and blow in it with the air nozzle and that solves that.
Second problem im not 100% sure about. The last couple times I have gone to start the truck i have to hold the throttle to the floor to keep it running (barely) and it has quite a bit of blue smoke until it warms up then the smoke clears and it runs smooth. Im thinking this may be valve stem seals? Does anyone have any other ideas?

yes glowplug system works, valves are adjusted but i havent ran a compression test. I am also kind of thinking maybe this has to do with my turbo being worn out. I pulled off my intake hose and felt the propeller and noticed it has quite a bit of slop, enough to where it looks like it is hitting the compressor housing which i can also hear at certain rpms. I have heard of worn out turbos spraying out oil into the exhaust so maybe this has something to do with the smoke.. looks like its time to start searching for another turbo
No, I will look into it. How much do you think it weights? It's still on the motor. We have been underwater for the last few days and they say there are a few more days till it drys out. I have some other work to do too but, I'll put your name on it.
The turbo housing is tapped for a water injection nozzle so, it would need a plug. 1/8 npt

Well ive finally started putting together my remote oil filter setup. Heres a couple pics
Turbo feed line braided stainless hose with the ebay adapter
And the adapter that I got from 300D50 which is very nice!
Thats all for know I should have the rest pretty much buttoned up tomorrow
Just make sure your fittings are letting oil flow to the turbo port!

Yeah, depending on the fitting you use, you might need to trim the end a bit. It's a weakness of tapered pipe thread...

Ok so i need some help on deciding what turbo to get. I rebuilt my current turbo probably less than 500 miles ago and its already shot. I think the inside of the housing where the bushing sit was just too worn out leading to the early failure. So im now looking for a complete replacement and wouldnt mind upgrading it with somthing that will have some better performance. So any ideas?

After seeing a BB turbo in person, I would jump on one in a second!
(05-12-2011, 11:47 PM)4rnnr33 Is there a website with specs on that turbo? Particularly the exhaust flange

Hows she run?
Ok so I havent been on here for a while but would like to bring this thread back from the dead. I havent really done much to the truck besides putting on 39.5" tires. I really am trying to come up with another motor mount solution because the poly mounts are creating way too much vibration. Does anyone have any good ideas on what to use for rubber mounts?
On the Mercedes they used soft rubber mount and little shock absorbers and let the engine shake a little but it doesn't shake the car at all
so i ended up ordering a few of these
They look like it should be pretty easy to modify my existing mounts to make these work they look like a pretty good style of mount I like the way the rubber sits in a tube which should make them plenty strong. More updates when they get here.
(10-31-2011, 01:15 AM)4rnnr33 so i ended up ordering a few of thesewhat kind of mount is that? What application? Im looking for something like that too, I hate the soft rubber MB mounts because they are too difficult to remove and wont work where im putting them, but id be using chevy mounts, which I think will be way too hard and result in the same problem you are having with vibration. these look like some of both worlds

yeaaaa thats the way to do it! lol. but do you plan for a soild front axel swap? i know its popular on those trucks
wish i could get a hold of an 86 my self. soild front stock
also keep this updated. i would like to see what kind of mileage you get compared to the 22re. or w/e came in yours.

(11-04-2011, 12:18 AM)toyfreak Hmm, what model did you get those from? I know the alltracs 3sgte is a heavy 4banger, they might be strong enough to withstand some off road beatings. The guys that race alltracs end up making poly bushings because the stocks won't hold the torque from them.

I have a few questions as I'm trying to get my OM617 finished up this weekend.
When you did the SAS, what kit and spring size did you run? Did you move the front hanger 3/4" forward? How far did you move the transmission mount back? What tranny are you running?
I ask all this because I'm running Trail-Gear's 5" HD springs with the front hanger 3/4" forward, and when I flexed it with the 22R in, the drag link didn't hit the tie rod, so I left the steering box where it was. I bought 4x4labs adapter kit, and my motor is so far forward, the crank pulley is 1 1/4" from the front frame cross member. I'd love to leave the engine where it is to reduce the amount of oil pan mods. I'd just really like to know if you moved the transmission/engine combo back, because that would shove the oil pan into the drag link even more. I'd move the tranny back if I didn't think it'd give me hell with with oil pan.
