82 OM617 in a 93 toy runner
82 OM617 in a 93 toy runner
im still in the prosses of the project but ill post some stuff up of what ive completed.
i picked up a junkyard motor for a 100 bucks i didnt think it was that bad a the time i should have inspected it more it had a cracked oil pan cracked thermostate housing and no wiring cost alittle more to fix all that than i wanted but it ok i just hope the engine runs i havent gotten that far yet.
i started tearing into it the internals were near perfect the outside was very greasy lots of oil leaks.
after cleaning i found this from when the fork lift operator droped it when moving it for me at the junk yard thanks buddy.
i didnt loose hope in it and i wasnt going to pay for a new one so i just cut off the broken parts to fab up a sheet metal pan.
since i was missing the glow harness i decided to make my own i used a ford started soliniod a push button and some heavy guage wire for the harness its simple and hopfully effective. any one done this before?
i used a vacuum control valve off the toyotas 22re emmision system to make the fuel shut off work properly.
this is my throtle linkage im rethinking this right now the old linkage was badly damaged from it being droped so i have to piece it together.
rewiring the toy harness to work with this engine not to complicated just a few changes i had to extend the alt harness to the pass side and wire in the fuel shut off in to the ignition on/off side of the system.
her is a couple random shot of the project.
G58 tranny
GM 130 amp alt had to build a bracket for this one its simple ill post a picture of the bracket soon.
the adapter plate is .25 thick steel i havnot finished it im waiting on the pilot bearing adapter currently when i get that i can align the tranny and mark the holes for it. thats the main thing that is holding me back when i get the two bolted togethere i can fab some motor mounts and plum everything together.
for the oil cooler im using an earls 10 row cooler with -10an lines i used weld on male AN adapters welded to the original oil line hookups on the filters housing the cooler will be mounted to the under side of the hood with loovers and a electic fan mounted to it i will also post pictures of that set up when i an done.
this is my power steering cooler its small but effective this will also be mounted to the hood on the same fan as the engine oil cooler.
There's a guy who sells oil pans just like yours.

Wow look good! Like the oil pan. Looks like you got your shit together
well i got the oil line adpters finished today heres what they look like.
Nice work on the oil fittings, I might steal that idea
Did you paint that valve cover? Or is it just super clean? Anyways its super nice looking.
(11-14-2011, 05:09 PM)aaa I feel like getting you a harness/glowrelay.

I have a couple extra... Now I feel like an ass for not thinking of offering it haha

(11-14-2011, 06:38 PM)toyfreak Watch the push lock hoses, mine started to leak and I had to put clamps on them.

does any one know how i can adapt the stock pressure sender location to a NPT tread other than drilling and tapping it out like an adapter of somthin. is there such a thing as metric pipe tread?
I've used the same glow-relay setup on my '82 300D for a while now and it works for me
just got my boost guage, vacuum can and oil cooler in its all usless umtill i get this engine in the truck but here is what i am using an earls plate style oil cool 10AN 13 row a auto meter vacuum boost guage and a moroso vacuum can does any one know the best placement for the vacuum guage line to hook up?
well ive been looking at the hood louvers on line and couldnt beleive the prices they were charging for them so i put my thinking cap on and went out and bought some HVAC air return vents cut them up and this is how it turned out.
Not usually a fan of the central air duct grill but that looks pretty good! half to see it on the truck!
Haha. That's awesome.
what about the rains!! seriously. i never under stood louvers in that sence. wont the rain just pour right on wherever the holes are?
Are the louvres for air intake or for engine compartment ventilation? I know the louvres on my 280Z are just there for ventilation or something
My buddy had a louver machine he made the louvered panels in this picture on the side/hood same thing he made the panels and riveted them on

i wish i could make some sort of louvers that wouldent let water and shit in but still flow well. :/
Water doesn't hurt anything.... As long as it isn't an air intake
Put a drip pan under it with a hose the lets the water run out some where else
could work. and i know water isent a huge deal i just dont want it in the engine bay lol.
this is all that i have got done lately mounted the vacuum can and routed the booster hose to it and put in the toyota check valve im also goin to use the mercedes check valve to run the fuel shut off to it. how does the fuel shut off work? does it get shut off when vacuum is applied to it or when the vacuum is shut off ive been thinkin of what type of relay i am goin to use a normaly open or closed does any one know?
it shuts off when a vacuum is applied to it. as far as i know
well got the pilot bearing adapter made up and installed its made from tool steal since the fly wheel is being partally suported by this it was a tight fit i had to freeze the adapter and heat the crank to make it fit it was only .004 press fit.
well i finally got her started up it runs smooth and strong i didnt have the proper spacing in the starter when i started it so the engine was driving the starter and acted like a generator you can see arc jumping to the engine block and exuast in the video i fix that issue no more wining no more arc just black smoke and an amazing smell of a deseil engine i did have one issue i cracked the rear cover of my oil filter housing does any one have a extra one with or with out the oil press pick up i tried fixing it but it didnt hold.
ahhh so thats what the sound was lol. nice man cant wait to see it driving around!

That thing sounded crazy!
ok i made a little progress but i also took a few steps backwards as well. ive got the engine in some of the electrical done and some of the fuel system done. my biggest problem is that my steering system doesnt not come close to clearing my oil pan so im going to have to natch the bottom of the pan to allow for clearance. other than that everything is goin good heres some picks.
finally finished it took it to the trails for testing did better than expected.
good shit man! that was awesome lol
larsalan I guess I need to look at this stupid ass drip shit. What you have to like mess with those elements on the pump? What a fucking hassle. then use some wire to hold the throttle open or some shit?
That's awesome!

(04-10-2012, 03:06 AM)cjcosta Nice project enjoy.i just painted the vavle cover with high temp silver. i dont care for the silver so im gunna sand blast it and have it powder coated wrinkle black.
Is the valve cover new? How you put it like that?
Best Regards

Very nice project, trying to convince my brother with a 617 swap in his TJ.

The powder coating must be temperature resistant or regular powder coating will do the job?
