6-speed W123
6-speed W123
Hello folks!
I'm planning on putting a 6-speed manul tranny from a W203 into my 617 powered W123 using the Dropnosky method. I already got the tranny (716.648) and the gear selector. I also have two W123 transmissions to take the bellhousing from. I just need to get off my butt and start working on the gig to hold the transmission for welding.
I have several concerns that perhaps you might be able to solve:
1. There's no speedo output in the tranny. Any ideas?
2. Where can I get a disassembly guide for the 6-speed tranny?
3. I'm planning to use my current clutch flywheel setup (617 stock) so I'll have to cut and weld the input shafts as Dropnosky did. Any knowledge on the heat treatment done to the input shafts? After the welding I'd like to have it heat treated.
As soon as I find my camera, I'll post some pics.
Cheers!
Thanks for the input guys.
AFAIK, the W203 tranny does not have speedometer pick up. The W203 uses the ABS sensor signal. I think I might go for a hall effect sensor working on the drive shaft. I just need to figure out what kind of signal the electronic speedo from a W126 or a 1981 W123 uses. This is going to require some brain workout.
As of today, I don't know if I should modify the tranny to fir the 617 or look for a 603 and fit it in my W123... Decisions decisions...
Does anyone know if the 2nd gen 300SD engine mount arms will work in a W123?
I've been thinking of going 6-speed in my 280E, but I've been thing of using a BMW M3 gearbox (because they are fairly easy to get and pretty cheap over here.

larsalan I guess I need to look at this stupid ass drip shit. What you have to like mess with those elements on the pump? What a fucking hassle. then use some wire to hold the throttle open or some shit?
Cheapo motorcycle speedos can be had for ~$100, they work off a magnet at the wheel. You could probably adapt one of those to the driveshaft pretty easily
