om 603 connecting rod bolts
om 603 connecting rod bolts
Im currently rebuilding a 603 engine I was curious are the rod bolts reusable or are they a one use? if they are one use are the ones on bestpricecarparts.com an acceptable replacement.
thanks for the help Nathan
you have to measure the length of them and there is a spec for replacement or reuse. I will send you the specs but i need the next three numbers in the engine number 603***
the engine code is 603 960 both alldata and Mitchell's don't mention anything about replacing the bolts but my engine rebuilder said they have to be but i find the after-market ones don't seem to be as high grade
thanks for all the help

Maximum bolt length from base of head to end of threads on your engine is 52.9mm, brand new they are 52.7mm. If the bolt is any longer than 52.9mm you must replace them with MB bolts. I would not trust aftermarket ones in this case.
thanks for the help you wouldn't happen to have the torque spec would you? the way aldata writes it up is quite confusing, i just want to double check.
thanks Nathan
It depends on the model year of your engine. If it is up to manufacturer date of 11/90 then torque to 30Nm and then turn and additional 90 degrees. If it is between 12/90 and 10/92 torque to 45Nm and turn an additional 90 degrees. If it is as of 11/92 torque to 40Nm and turn an additional 90 degrees. (also if you are reusing the old bolts subtract 5Nm from the 1st stage torque spec since the bolt is already pre stretched)
the engine is from a 1987 300e turbo diesel I checked the bolts today they are all within spec.
thanks for all the help
