606A with mechanical IP question..
hi there. i have question i was hoping to get an answer from you guys. i recently fitted a 606a to my g wagen . i had a mechanical IP fitted and was told that i had to change the toothed gear that adjusts the timing. it runs off the timing chain infront of the pump. is the original toothed gear for timing fitted to the 606a really different ?
i think my mechanic is trying to con me !!!

If the original pump was an turbo ip(electric), i don`t know. But the mechanical om603.910/962 and om606.910 has the same toothed gear in the front.
The only thing i can think of, is maybe the electrical IP doesn`t have the timing guveoner that is fitted to the that toothed gear.
I have a stock om606.910 (the same as om603) fitted to my 606 turbo

I don't think they are different(I have not noticed any difference) and for sure you can use any of them. Remember that both the 606.962 and the 603 has mechanical pumps, it is just the rack that is electronically controlled on the 606, and that has nothing to do with timing.

If the pump came and gear came from an OM603, the vacuum drive is different. Also, the original gear from your engine will be compatible with the older pump.
Basically what I'm saying is that the gear will have to match the engine because of the vacuum pump drive. The gear will fit any of the pumps so no worries there.

Correct. The gears will interchange on OM601, OM602, OM603, OM604, OM605, OM606 injection pump. BUT, the gear must match the vacuum pump drive coupling for the particular engine.
Another way to say it is that the original injection pump gear stays with the engine regardless of which injection pump you use.
